I know you're not supposed to want time to fly by, especially at my age, but I cannot wait for the November elections to be over! Every time I turn on the radio or TV or pick up a newspaper, I'm bombarded by political ads.

Just had to get that off my chest!

It will be over soon but it gets harder & harder to try to make the right choices. I think it's extremely important to vote and do it w/ a good & clear conscious but in this day & age that gets more difficult. I think all politicians should not be allowed to run unless they can recite the Declaration of Independence word for word then explain the meaning.

Hear ya, it's getting so bad and every day we get 4 or 5 pieces of political junk mail.
I just want it to go away.
I think all sides have good points and bad points.
We have yet to actually elect someone who can bring about the change at the end.
So I just hope I make a good decision and vote.
(I can't complain if I don't vote!)

I'm so tired of the ads too! What irks me more than anything is that they don't just talk on the issues...Noooooooooo, we have to slam the "other guy" instead. I want to hear how you feel about the issues and I'll make up my own mind about "the other guy".

Hello,
You all need to be here in Texas. WE have One Tough Grandma and Kinky Freeman ( For you oldtimers you will remember him from the 60's) running against each other for Govenor along with our current governor running. What a zoo. Oh if Kinky wins he is planning to make Willie Nelson head of the energy department here.LOL
I too will be glad when they are over.
Hugs,
Elizabeth

Well, at least I don't feel so alone now. I've been wondering if the name-calling and mud-slinging was only happening here in Kentucky. Or maybe that I'm just noticing it more. We have two rich people running against each other for a congressional seat - they both have more money than Fort Knox and more venom than a pit of snakes! The Mayor of Louisville is my beacon of hope - he's a gentleman! In his commercials, he thanks his loving wife, his small son, and says he has 'the best job' in the world. He's been mayor for years and has done a wonderful job!

I agree!
I saw a preview for a movie called "Man of the Year"-starring Robin Williams. Basically, it is about a comedian (played by Robin Williams, of course) who gets elected president. I find myself thinking "you know, I probably WOULD actually vote for Robin Williams-at least then some of these political ads would be amusing instead of just mudslinging!!!

We have a particularly nasty Senate race going on here in Ohio. One side even has little old ladies spitting venom in their commercials.

DH and I are registered for opposite political parties so we get callers from both sides, and our mailbox fills up with lots of junk mail from both sides as well. Today I actually got one recorded message that was important to me - it told me which judges favor "my" party, since the party does not appear on the ballot.

Don't you love the messages on your answering machine from former presidents?

And if you get Foxtrot in your comics, wasn't yesterday's a scream?

in kentucky, i have chosen to look beyond the 'political slams' in commercials .. and do some research of my own .. and voted my choices based on that. if i'm watching tv and see/hear a political ad i'm tired of or don't like .. i exercise my 'american freedom' to hit the MUTE or OFF button ..and run get a snack ... or some fabric for dolly dresses .. and i ALWAYS have a favorite book handy to pick up until my show comes back on.

having worked for politicians in washingon, d.c. for most of my career .. i've come to watch it all from up close and to also view it from afar. and that has also helped me to form (ever-chanaging)opinions about politicians/issues/parties.

Can't believe some of you are getting phone calls from candidates blasting the other guy!! Television is not even worth watching these days, as every ten minutes mud's slinging all over the screen. As an aside, I saw the Robin Williams movie last night ("Man of the Year") that was mentioned; he's a bit bawdy at times, no surprise there, but overall it was great, and oh so timely. Nance

I agree that I can't wait for all the ads to be over, but let's all remember to get out and exercise our right to vote next week. No matter what side you are on, what your issues are, please get out and let your voice be heard. thanks....
