Does anyone here do leather working? I'm toying with the idea of starting out with leather belts. But let's face it...I don't know much. I know I need awls, punches, stamps, dyes and various cleaners and the like to get started. But I guess I need some beginner information before I invest in it. Any thoughts or advice?

I have done a little bit of leather working. It is fun. Maybe get a starter kit. That is what I did for my boys. You can do a lot with that, without spending a lot of money. Tandy leather has a good website. They also have free videos you can watch to learn different things. I just watched one on stamping belts. Very informative. Sign up for emails, they have sales often. Michele
I think braiding leather , like an edge on a belt or purse, or reins for a horse would be a great thing . I bought a good book on it and I think I could learn from it. Apprenticing with someone or a leather workshop would be worth it. I worked for a year making custom sandals, it was fun.
