Hey Farm Sisters,

First, I have to say I am sorry for not being as active in the forum as I should. This summer has kicked my hinney! I know I'm not the only lady with a busy life, so I am sorry for the neglect.

I have found myself failing in almost every area of life the last few months. I have been having a poor attutude and can't seem to find my get-up-and-go. I was having trouble with focus and finding no joy in the small things. And after a bit of soul searching, I figured out why, My son grew up and left home.

Now, I have to be clear here, he's leaving was a good thing. I raised him up to be a man. He finished collage and it was time for the next step in life. He moved out of state for a short time, till this Nov. when he'll began his military training (GO ARMY!) I am so very, very, very proud of him. He grew up just like I raised him to do. But, I didn't have a clue that I would be sad about it, that came as such a surprise. It took months to realize I was depressed. So, I have had a good old fashion cry, and said good-bye to his childhood, and now look forward to witnessing his life as an adult. (I don't know how long it will take for me to see him as a man, when I hear his voice I still see him as my little blond, curly headed, blue-eyed baby) Now I am preparing to be an Army Mom, and I hope I can be as brave has he is.

So the next morning (after my cry-fest) I took back my Farm-Girl-ness. I took down all the white curtains, washed them and put them out on the line to dry. And I left them there all day because they were so pretty! I put on my apron and cooked for the joy of it. I sat and drank a cup of coffee and looked out my window. I spent a good half hour watching the cat napping under the clean, white curtains. And enjoyed the beautiful trees and flowers around my cabin. I have almost forgotten the life style I wish to live, a slower paced life with simple pleasure away from this worlds feverish race (that gets them no place!) So I took an extra day off from work, to have a four day weekend, and I'm going to stay at home and reconnect with my home and hearth.

Sorry this is so long, I guess I had a lot to say. But I think we all need to know each others stories and struggles. We all fall down from time to time, and we can encourge each other to get back up and to grab ahold of our farm-Girl-ness, and hang our curtains out to dry!

Oh, Shanda! I just want to wrap my arms around you and give you a big, comforting farmgirl hug! I'm only a few short years from where you are now, and I'm both excited about it and dreading it all at the same time - just like you! I read your words and started welling up myself thinking that's exactly where I'm going to be before you know it! Please know that Janet is so right: we are always here for you. You're not alone, to be sure.

I'm so glad you're taking back your Farm-Girl-ness (love that expression!). As Helen Keller once said, "Keep your face to the sun, and you cannot see the shadow." I love how you've turned the gray sky moments into blue sky happiness. That's definitely the farmgirl way!

You GO girl! I'll be thinking of you and saying little prayers to help see you through!

Hugs -

Nini

our babies, will always be our babies, no matter how old they are...that being said, my 4 have been out on their own and have given me 5 beautiful grandkids, and I still miss them all, with all of my heart and soul, and they could visit once a week, and I would still get misty eyed when they left...

Shanda,
I tripped over my lower lip a time or two when my youngest left home about 18 months ago. It takes a bit to gather your thoughts and grab your identity now that you don't have a kid at home. It turns out to be quite exciting and I am so glad to hear you are on your way to enjoying it!

Best wishes on keeping your spirits high,
Marianne

Shanda - Congratulations on a job well done - you raised a man. I think it's our job as parents to teach them to walk and then to cheer for them as they walk away. Enjoy your time rediscovering yourself and thank him for his service to our country.

Welcome back Shanda!
What a wonderful attitude you have. I loved how you out your feelings into words and painted a picture for us of how you are feeling and what you as a mom are going thru!
So glad you took the time to post. Great to have you back girl!
Blessings to you and your son as he begins the next phase of his life.
Thank you for his service to our country!
Hugs,

~Laurie

I'm glad you are back Shanda. I have two grown sons and I miss them terribly. They come over when they can, but it isn't as often as I would like. I respect that they have their own lives and homes. I raised them to be independent and am very proud that they are, just wish they could get in touch with mom here a little more often. Enjoy your beautiful home and reconnect with your wonderful life. There is always something new and different happening every day, look forward to it.

Thank you so much Ladies! You all have truely blessed me. I do still have my daugher at home, she's 15 and swears she's going to live next door to me so we can grow old together. She sees us as very connected when her babies are born and I'm good with that! Of-course some young man is going to come along, and she'll go where he calls (which is the right thing to do). but I have a few years to brace myself for that!

Blessings!!!

Shanda - you are brave, strong, and wonderful. I'm praying for you and your family - as a Veteran myself (Air Force), I wholeheartedly support your son's decision to join the military. I feel like it should be required for young people! Bless you, farm sister. <3

Shanda, I don't have kids myself, so I cannot identify with how you must be feeling but I wanted to let you know that I am always here to listen to and I am sending my love and support. <3 Hang in there and I really LOVE your expression of taking back your Farmgirlness... Awesome!
