My husband will be home from a year long military training in 3 weeks. We are planning a short trip to Shipshewana and Amish country for early Octobet. Any advice on activities? We will be bringing along our 5 year old little lady.

I used to collect model horses and the Peter Stone factory that makes Stone models is in Shipshewana. Little girls love model horses.

That would be right up my daughters alley. She takes riding lessons and is horse crazy!

You may want to get a hotel booked since there aren't a lot there. The Farmstead is a great place to stay, beautiful landscaping & a pond in front. We love to go for walks in the evening & listen to the frogs & the clip clop of the horses. They have a pool & play area. Also, take make sure you get off of the main highways & drive down some of the country roads to the amish stores at their homes. We love this, it gives you a true sense of how they live & especially in the evening. You can't really get lost. There is absolutely nothing open on Sunday except a gas station so make sure you plan for that. The Blue Gate is great food & also the Wanna Cup is what I call amish fastfood (burgers & fries, etc) but also very good. We have been many times, it is just a nice peaceful getaway when you need to relax. You can't go wrong.
