I went to a little new and used book store just down the road from me today. While there I found a book called "Little Heathens Hard Times and High Spirits on an Iowa Farm During the Great Depression. It was written by Mildred Armstrong Kalish. I turned the book over to read the back of the book jacket and to my surprise there was a review by none other than Mary Jane Butters. Well that made the sale.

It looks like a brand new book. Maybe only read once if that. I think it was a great buy at $3.50. Has anyone else read it? Did you like it? I'm starting it tonight.

What a great find Lavender Rose! Your treasure will get even better when I share with you that Mildred's book was proclaimed one of "The 10 Best Books of 2007" by the New York Times Book Review. It's a lovely book and a good read.

I have this book on my bookshelf, a gift from a family member. You are inspiring me to pull it down and read it.

Oh, yes! I read this book and felt right at home. I certainly had a grandmother like hers. To this day I clean out the inside of egg shells..or else...I am from Iowa, of course.

I've read bits and pieces of that book and its certainly a great read. I, too, am an Iowa girl, so I may be a bit biased. : )

I've read about half of the book and it's wonderful. Will write more when I finish.
