My hubby and I picked choke cherries last night. I have already made 3 matches and ready to make more. This is something my grandparents used to do and glad I can carry on the tradition. My grandkids even like it. It is a bit tart, but make good jelly.

My grandmother had her own chokecherry bush in the back 40. She made the most delicious jelly with those tiny cherries--they were mostly seed. Sometimes she made wine. I never tasted that, but the grownups liked it.

Oh I wish we had them here. My mom used to make jelly with them. They were so good! I liked the little bit of tartness.

Well...... I made the jelly and now fighting chigger bites. This experience was bittersweet and itching like crazy. anyone know how to stop the itching? I need something natural/herbal, allergic to most meds.

Kem,

I enjoy Chokecherry Jelly too. Sorry about the Chiggers. I use a dab of Lavender essential oil for the itching and swelling of deer fly bites and mosquito bites and that helps. I don't see why it wouldn't work for the chigger bites.
