I was wondering if anyone has a recipe for pretzel bread ?
I bought it at two different stores a few times but they have quit carrying it. Now Sonic Drive In, is serving pretzel bread with hot dogs.
My husband loves these but, the hot dogs have way to much sodium so I would like to make my own buns and use more healthy hot dogs.
Thanks
Peggy

Hi Peggy :)

Here is a recipe that I have used for the past several years:

Pretzel Bread

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Ingredients:

1 package yeast (or 2 ¼ teaspoons)
1-½ cups of lukewarm water (105-110 degrees)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
3-4 cups flour

Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar and salt. Add flour half cup at a time. Mix dough and knead. Shape into rolls, pretzel shapes, or a braided loaf and place on greased baking sheet. Brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with coarse (pretzel) salt. Bake about 12 minutes for rolls and pretzels, and about 25-30 minutes for bread.

*With this recipe you do not need to allow dough to rise.

Oh thank you so much, if you use this recipe than I know it has to be great and I have been looking for a Pretzel Bread/Roll Recipe for awhile. Oh and Sharon has a met in your mouth, yummy marshmellow recipe as well, great for "glamping".
Thank you again Sharon.

Sharon, thank you. I will try this recipe this week. I looked at Walmart today for Pretzel salt and could not find any.
Would any kind of coarse salt work.
My husband will be so happy . also no preservatives.

Thanks Peggy

You are welcome Debbie and Peggy :)

Peggy, Pretzel Salt is really different than most coarse salts. If I were to substitute I would use Kosher Salt.
