This was my first year growing garlic. My friend told me to just use a bulb from the store.
I did, the bulbs and garlic are so small. What is a good kind to buy and where do I buy it from.
I would love some nice sized bulbs.

thanks
Peggy

Hi. I do not know the variety, but when available, Mary Janes Farm Store sells it online (look under Garden in the shopping.) I know she experimented with several kinds of garlic and did research. They are not available yet for sale but you can see the photo of them. I am waiting to order some from the MJF source when they become available.

Peggy,
I grow all my garlic in the fall, it over winters well and is ready for harvest late spring to early summer. I get my bulbs from Southern Exposure. They have both hard neck and soft neck varieties. I did not have good luck when planting ones from the grocery stores, but some people do claim to. Hope this helps

Kelly,
I planted my garlic that you and I did a barter for in December, and it is just beautiful ... the leaves are just starting to turn yellow at the very ends. I will harvest when all leaves are yellow and have laid down ... So mine have done well above ground ... can't wait to see them this summer.
Thanks again!

I am so glad it looks good. You can harvest when the three bottom leaves are yellow, or at least move some of the soil away and see how they look, you do not want them to stay to long the cloves can start to separate. I just harvested most of mine a few days ago! they are all starting their drying out a bit process. love fresh garlic. From being able to use it fresh as well as dehydrating for homemade garlic powder. All so yummy!

Annie,
Thanks for information . I had forgotten that MJ also sells garlic. I will buy from here because I know it is organic.
Kelly, thanks for telling me when to plant. I will get my bed ready for Fall.
