Last week I saw three large armadillos enter my property from the pasture next door. I saw one of them back by my garage a few days later. Any suggestions on the best way to make them go away and leave my property?

first off, they are known carriers of leprosy, so be careful, the only way I know of getting rid of them is trapping them and either re-locating, or shooting them and burying them deep...

When my brother lived in Plano, an armadillo would "visit" his yard and dig it up. He got a BB gun and waited. when the armadillo came, he shot at it. the BB bounced off, but the armadillo never came back. Cindy

We've had close to 30 armadillos in the yard over the 16 years we've been on this property. We've humanely trapped about 20, carted them off and left them in cane fields miles from our property and if I didn't know better, they're right back in a day or two. I've threatened to spray paint them from now on to prove they do return. They are terribly destructive and we've had too many close calls with ankle-turns; the dog when she's running or when we step in one of the cavernous holes they've dug in the yard. We've trapped 3 armadillos in the past week, but we normally shoot them. Our neighbors do the same thing. I cannot be persuaded they have ANY redeeming value whatsoever, there is he potential of leprosy and they are simply disgusting. Because of our animals, we don't bury anything in the yard, so when we shoot an armadillo, they go to the land fill.

Reading this, I never thought about them being pests. I miss seeing armadillos. We used to see them at my dad's ranch all the time growing up. Funny what ya miss when you move away from home.

A .22 bullet to the head is the quickest, easiest, and most humane way to get rid of an armadillo. They are destructive pests. When I was a little girl we had one that lived under our playhouse that I lovingly named "Henry". Ironically enough as I grew up and realized how much damage they do to the farm, I would exterminate them using my dads Henry rifle. |
