Good luck Diana! The woodpeckers loved my old house. I banged on walls, yelled at them, even threw things at them, but they kept coming back. The siding on our house looked like someone had gone nuts with a power drill on it! I have been told that if whatever they are pecking on has a good sound, then they will keep coming back for more.

I hope you can figure out a way to get rid of your pesky woodpecker!

In your house? I would be mad too. How do you get rid of woodpeckers? I sure hope you win this one!

woodpeckers drum to get the insects out to eat, if you have one or more druming, then you may want to check and see if you have a bug invasion, like termites, carpenter ants, etc...

No everything is good it is just nesting. I pulled out the nest and filled it with expanding foam and covered it with a canning lid.
Then I hung old Cd's to reflect and make some noise. She is mad but I think gone from that hole.I will be chasing her but I know what my fix is and then we go from there.

The flickers are really bad this year. They're ruining our old one-room schoolhouse and also the side of my barn. Every time we fortify a spot or even an entire wall with chicken wire, and yes, can tops, they find another place to do their jack hammer thing. "Why can't you nest in the rotten trees around here?!" I beg them. You have my sympathies, Diane!

We had woodpeckers one year attacking the back of the house so I hung a bunch of old cd's (nice and shiny) on old metal hangers (about 3-4 per each hanger) using fishing line and then hung the hangers from the eaves of the house. That seemed to do the trick. Yes, they looked pretty weird hanging from the back of the house, but hey, it worked! They didn't like the shiny, moving cd's and decided to go elsewhere. They still return to rat-a-tat-tat on the metal roofing vents now and then, which I heard was part of their mating ritual. You might try the CD trick, Diane and MaryJane. Who knows,,,???

I have been over and checked and no new hole starts. And no sounds from over there.

They are such beautiful and amazing birds. I actually like the sound of their drumming.

Laura, I like it too, but on the metal vents right above your head is rather startling! Haha... It's actually funny they like that kind of thing.
Diana, It sounds like the CD's worked for you too, maybe?

We don't have problems with the pecker heads (play on words please. Lol) . I have swallow problems with them trying to build nests on my covered deck. I tack up plastic shopping bags under the eves. That will discourage them. Take them down after about a week.
