... if the weathermen pre-record the forecasts and weather reports? At noon yesterday, my son and I watched the weatherman reporting that at that very moment there were clear, sunny skies, no rain in sight, and showed a weather radar attesting to that fact. We got up, looked outside, and rushed to get the laundry off the line. The sky was covered with fluffy, dark-bottomed clouds as far as they eye could see in every direction, the temperature had dropped since morning, and it was sprinkling out. Honest to Pete, it was as if nobody at the news station had even looked at the sky outside. I went online to see what another local station was reporting for the weather, and it was a lot different than the other channel, and much closer to being correct. When my husband came home, we told him what had happened. I joked that it seemed like they had pre-recorded the report, using the previous day's forecast information and a recording of the radar. My husband said that he had had that same thought before, but surely they wouldn't do such a thing. I wonder, though, if they really DO? It might explain all the faulty reports, that's for sure! SO weird.

Yes, they do here. And on the radio too. All day, the same thing.

Many radio stations buy "canned" weather and traffic reports because they can't afford special live announcers to do these cut-ins. One of the dead giveaways in the Washington DC area traffic reports is when the announcer puts "the" in front of "GW Parkway," "Memorial Bridge" and so on. Locals don't do that. And of course there are always the mispronounced towns and landmarks. If you have kids in the car, it can be a fun game to dial around on your car radio to see if you can guess who's "real" and who's canned. Sorry for the geekery. Former broadcaster.

I have two places that I check the weather and they are never the same as each other. I know which is true at least but I like to check the other one occasionally to see if they ever get it right.

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

Well I don't have tv anymore but we used to have this one weather man who was pretty on the dot with the weather, but he became ill and had to quit. I get my weather on line and it is pretty good with the daily weather. But lately it is just WINDY!
take care

we live down the road from the weather station... and quit honestly... I think they would do a better job if they would just look out the window! lol!

I like the old string method,,,, tack a piece of string on the fence post...
if it's moving... it's windy,
if it's wet, it's raining
it it's white, it's snowing
if it's gone... it's been stolen... lol!

Grace - I love that! SO true!! LOL!

I am really amazed and somewhat appalled that they would ever pre-record the weather and then report it as live coverage and "current conditions"... but it sure explains a lot! LOL!

And to think how much they pick on poor ol' Phil...
