Ok, gals-
Partners:
treelady - beaglemama ptroupe - NixKat Kammi - ProgressiveHomemaker brightmeadow- Mama Bulla Lisa_P - Lavender Rose Debi Carr - Madelena Ladybek9756 - buzzn bee HolidayJunkie - Erin Rock debtea2 - brightmeadow
Here's a chance to really use your creativity to put a twist on swapping in celebration of Earth Day. For this swap, you can make your choice of
- pot holder - tea cozy - pin cushion - needle book - tote bag - hair or jewelry ornament - or your choice with similar level of effort
The twist is, you cannot PURCHASE any new or used materials for this swap, it must be made from your stash, from upcycling, from re-using, etc. In other words, make and embellish something attractive and useful from something that would otherwise go to a landfill or be left in your craft room or closet for your children to dispose of after you are gone.
Craft can be your choice, sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet, macrame, woodwork, wirework, etc. You can use paint, thread, yarn, bubblegum wrappers, milkweed pods, whatever works for your artstic medium.
Sign ups by April 7, exchange names by April 15, Mail-out by April 30. Extras are allowed (and encouraged), but they must follow the same rules- no purchase necessary to win! The only expense you should incur for this swap is for postage.

I would love to do this! I have something in mind already. Do I need to tell you which item it is?
Thanks, Portia

Welcome, Portia, Kris, Brenda! You do not have to tell me what you are making, but once partners are assigned, if you have multiple ideas, you may want to ask for input. Final decision should definitely be left up to the "maker" as raw materials are limited to what they have on hand.
Thanks for signing up! This is my first time as "swap mom" so you are encouraging me! Let me know if I forget something!

I love this idea and want to be part of the fun! Please add me to the list.
I've never participated in a swap before so I'll need some information on the "rules".
Thank you for doing this. How fun! And the theme is so perfect.

I am new and would like to be included in this swap. I have tons of scraps and it would give me a chance to really get creative. Also as I really am a newbie and not familiar with this program I will need some direction to begin with.

Michelle, Deborah, Rebecca - welcome, I think this is going to be a fun swap.
For Rebecca and any other "newbies" to swaps on Mary Jane's here are some tips based only on my experience. You can also review the posts on swapping etiquette in other topics under this category for others' thoughts.
Timeline - Usually the swap "mom" gives a couple of weeks for people to sign up. On the deadline date (for this swap it's April 7) I will match names of swap partners and post this in the first post in the thread (so you don't have to go to page 10 to find it). Each participant will have one partner. When I post the names I will update the topic name with something like "Partners Posted" so that you know to look for the name of your partner. During the next week you should contact your partner by email (click on their Farmgirl name at the left of your post for a link to send them an email) to give them your name and address. It's OK to also post a note on the topic thread to notify me that you have contacted your partner but it is not necessary. If the contact deadline passes and you have not heard from your partner, and no response to a reminder, please notify me by email, so that I can follow up. Once you know who your partner is, it is time to create your masterpiece. Once it is ready, packaged, and mailed, it is a courtesy to contact your swap partner to let her know that your item has been sent so that she can watch for it to arrive in the expected time frame. You can either do that in the thread topic or by private email. It is your choice whether to insure the item or not, I usually don't, because I trust the good old USPS to deliver! I sometimes send by priority mail if I am nearing the end of the deadline date and it's not too expensive, otherwise, I normally just use the first class rate.
When you receive your swap from your partner it is customary to acknowledge it publicly in the thread. If it is convenient for you to post a digital photo of what you received, everyone always loves to see what other swappers have given/received, but this is not required. If you want to follow up with a thank you by email or by snail mail, that is usually also appreciated but also not required. Please be sure to complete your item by the mail-out date (for this swap it is April 30) so that everyone has completed this swap and received their gifts by the first week in May.
Extras - Some swappers in swaps I have participated in have included extra treats for their partner in addition to the main swapped item, but that is totally voluntary. I have received everything from chocolate to tea bags to notepads to pencils to children's gifts to quilt squares as "extras" - but remember that for THIS swap, any extras you choose to include must follow the rules of the main swap - no new purchases.
I hope that answers any questions you may have, if you have additional questions please feel free to email me privately. Thanks!
