I know most of you can't get fresh clams or seafood, but if you do make the most of it. To save clam juice, line a fine sieve with paper coffee filters. Strain the juice your clams were steamed in 2-3 time to remove grit and sand. Freeze in whatever. Increments that are convenient for you. I freeze mine in 2 cup increments. Use in chowders or other seafood recipes. Dump left over juice in garden plot.

YOu are right I do not have fresh clams to make clam juice. we have been buying the little bottles in the grocery store. I wondered how it was made. Maybe I will have to make a trip to Maine to pick up some clams this summer so I can freeze the liquid.
I did boil fish heads to make fish broth. My dd and I had a good time inviting the boys into the kitchen to show them the heads boiling and hearing their squeals of disgust.
You can probably do it with fresh clams from the grocery store. It would amount to the same. Eat the steamed clams with melted butter. Real mainers eat the bellies yum yum.
