My cousin sent me this and I can't get it to transfer here so here's the skinny: Visa or Mastercard "Fraud Detection" unit contacts you and they have ALOT of your info. They tell you that there was just a purchase made for 497.00 and that they are checking since that is so close to the $500.00 verification amount. They read back to you your card#, name, address and part of the number code on the back of your card. All the while you are saying very little because this seems legit , they have so much info. THEN they ask you to "verify" the number on the back of your card (they've already read it to you once MINUS THE PIN #). Most people read it back complete and within minutes these people use your card and there is no way to trace it.
The card must be closed immediately and a new one issued. They even give you a customer service # (fraudulent) to check if you have any further questions. Be careful girls and give NO PERSONAL INFO OVER THE PHONE, EVER!!!

This is what always seems so stupid to me. If it was REALLY the credit card company calling, they would HAVE that information!

I also don't fall for the companies that call saying your credit card information for your Onstar or other service has expired, so could you give another number? Shoot, why not just open up your purse and say Help Yourself???

I think why this one has gotten so many people is that they provide you with so much of your info that you miss the fact that they were a few numbers short the first time around. And they are very professional, nothing to make you think they weren't legit. Keep safe!

Thanks for the good reminders, gals - it's always good to be cautious over the phone (and in person, actually!). I sometimes am convinced when I read or hear the news or am reminded about scams like this that there is noplace as safe as my own farm! Isn't it great to be able to create little, or big!, farmgirl havens around the world. Just thinking of all of us out there makes me feel so much more content with the world...

XOXO, Libbie
