I love to go to thrift stores and find bargains!! I thot about the other day hosting a tote bag swap...Well, then I thought about the way we used to make purses out of blue jeans.....so I thought well why not host a blue jean skirt tote bag swap!!!

What you can do if you'd like, is purchase a blue jean skirt from a thrift store or you may have one of your own. I will purchase one from a thrift store, cause if I used one of my own, it would look like a large thrash can tote...hehehe...So I will find one that is smaller than what i wear.
Then you will decorate the top of the skirt as you would like, ribbons, flowers, felt, or bandanas after you sew up the bottom to make a tote. you will need to put a handle or two on the tote. You do not have to line the tote unless you would like to.
Just have fun. This will be a good long time to complete this swap so Sign up ends April 2nd and Send out day will be April 28th.
Make your skirt tote, the size of a tote, not huge but big enough, You girls will know!! Come on in and join, you farmgirl sewers...

Hi Beth,

Could we use the top of a pair of jeans instead of a skirt? I have a 4 foot pile of jeans waiting to made into other things. Hoping to make the legs into a rug or maybe a quilt.

Beth, this sounds like a swap that was meant to be, for me. I just rescued an old pair of jeans that my husband was going to throw away. I've removed the zippers and pockets for future use, but the legs will work perfectly for this swap. And I have lots of embellishment ideas!

OK, I know this is a longer-term swap and I don't even know who my partner is yet, but I am just busting out of my britches to tell you that I went thrifting this morning and not only found a cute jeans skirt to make this tote from, but I also found a skirt made of the cutest polyester lining fabric (curious what fashion stores will sell to young girls!) that is just so much more inspiring. I can't wait! This is going to be fabulous!

Splash on in, Patsy!!! you'll do fine!! And Brenda, I got my skirt last week at a thrift store and already have ideas in mind!! Part of the fun for me is picturing it in my head and seeing it come to life!! There is a good bit of time for this swap but where I live there are not that many thrift stores or places to find great things, so I have to go into a bigger city...With families and all I hope all will feel like they have time and not rushed. :) We'' just have fun and Happy Crafting!!!!!
