 anyone out there know something about tropical indoor plants? i bought one the other day and it had no name, and the store clerk didn't seem to know> it looks like long blades of skinny grass all foilage.no flowering as far as i know anyways. and tall heavy stems like a tree! i looked on the net but had no luck, one was a yucca~ but it seemed to have wider blades? please, any info would be appreciated. i wonder if it is tropical? it wouldn't need a lot of water would it? thankyou jo!

Yucca Plants aren't tropical- they are a desert plant. I am not sure what yours is, but perhaps you could post and image?
I have an indoor palm tree. I just water it whenever it is starting to look droopy. I keep it away from drafts from wintery air and try to put in in a sunny room. Indoor tropicals are usually pretty easy to take care of. Hope yours is too! |

| Tecnically there are tropical deserts (like the Sahara). But usually when people call something a tropical plant they are thinking more of a "moist" tropical. Most likely it might be a palm grass type plant or even a very small palm tree. If it is yucca, the ends of the leaves should be extremely sharp and it wouldn't have a woody type stem. Yucca plants grow their leaves straight from their roots. Or at least the varieties that I am familiar with do. |

 alee, i found out the name of the plant~~ red margined,( another name) dracena marginata, it does have redish on the edge of the grass looking leaves, i think it said it likes to be moist and in indirect light! let me know if u know about that one? ok thanks jo!

yeh it is pretty alee~ i wish i could send u some pictures, it was on sale when i bought it. i should have got some others that were on sale too only they were different then that one but i believe allt hat were on sale were tropical or so they said they were~. but i am running out of places to put my plants, tee hee~~` i love plants, and out door veg. gardening and also herbs later jo!

Jo, I have 2 of those plants. They are my favorite. A friend gave me a huge one she had grown from clippings of her tree sized plant as a housewarming gift and my youngest son loved it so much that when I found an interestingly shaped one at the PX I just had to pick it up for him. This plant DOES NOT LIKE TO BE MOIST. Leave it alone in a bright room with indirect sunlight and when the soild drys out give it a good drenching. I water mine until they start to drip into the tray beneith the pots. Durring the summer I move mine out side into partial shade to keep it from drying out too fast and it just florishes. I brought them in a few weeks ago and the big one has a ton of new sprouts on it (they look like warts, but turn into new stems). Two very cool pieces of trivia about this plant 1. It's common name is Madigascar Dragon Tree. 2. If you cut off a stem and shove it back down into the soil not only will that cut off stem grow (I water that area a little extra), but the old stem will sprout new branches.

cool idea, u know i don't have one plant upstairs! i guess i like to be where they are all the time lol! i'm a plant nut~ but it would look good in my bathroom, as it is hudge. i also thought of one in the hall it would really be nice here upstairs too, i have my comp up here soooo what a good plan. thanks for the idea! jo! well i will have to share that news about that plant with my sister as she got one too, thanks again!!!! jo!
