Hey Everyone,
I'm Courtney from West Enfield, Maine! I just started a Farmgirl Chapter up here with my sister and mother and we refer to ourselves as "THE HEN AND CHICKS" :). I had a newbie question about the merit badges...do we earn them for completing an entire category such as, Stitching and Crafting as well as the sub categories like Knitting, quilting, etc.? I know that we have to complete each category at the expert level, but I am just unsure as to if we get a merit badge for each sub category and then we receive an overall merit badge for the entire category?? I am just a little confused :P
Thanks Ladies, Courtney

Hi Courtney, welcome to the farm! Glad to have you. I read the info on the merit badges and here is the link. Lots of good stuff here. http://www.farmgirlsisterhood.org/merit-badges.asp
Looks like you complete the first part, apply for the badge, get the badge and embroider. As you complete each part of the requirements you "apply" for the official "well done" and then continue to embellish the badge you already have. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Courtney, You earn each merit badge at each level starting at beginner for each sub-category. If you earn ALL three levels for each sub-category you could apply for the SCHOOLMARM badge for that category. In other words, you would apply for and earn ALL the badges for everything listed in Stitching & Crafting before you would be eligible for Schoolmarm for that category. Hope that makes sense.
It can be overwhelming and I suggest just starting with a few that you are ready for and go from there. Even if you've, in your life experiences, done and learned everything in the sub-category already, you do have to start with beginner and earn all levels. Wishing you the best! CJ
