I'm looking for a treadle sewing machine. I don't know how my daughter (23) did it but she broke my fancy electric one, again. Where do you all find them. I searched ebay and I could get on cheap if I lived in Ohio. I live in Portland, Oregon and I'm willing to travel but not that far! If you have any tips let me know, I'd be forever grateful.
enjoy this beautiful fall day,
clw

Try mentioning it on your local freecycle group and also check the want ads in the paper. ALso if you are involved in any social groups (like a church group) mention to someone there that you are looking for one and see if anyone has one that they don't want.

I found mine at a mid-spring yard sale. It was mentioned in their ad, so that's what got me there early. Here in WA sate, spring is when people tend to do the heavy cleaning out, but it never hurts to keep reading the papers now. Good luck!

I just found one! A No.99 that needs refurbishing. I just started letting people that I came in contact with know that I was loking for a treadle. Always, a story or memory of one was elicited. I loved every story and was more steadfast that one existed for me. Then 2 weeks ago, there was a note at my work desk to call Tom. His mother, Hilda Gray, was a seamstress and had stored this Singer treadle in a closet, having never used it. Tom said that the treadle was a gift as his mother would never tolerate strangers milling about her home during an Estate Sale.
I felt as though I was going to pick up a new puppy. Hugs and kisses for everyone! There is much to do to return it to it's previousm working order.

Who know how to refurbish/clean an old Singer treadle?

I don't have one, but I have seen them at estate sales and estate auctions....more often the auctions though....

I am waiting to look for one for me until we have decided what we want to do withour basement. It's finished but Rob's "I kept every scrap of paper for 7 years in 5000 boxes" is spread out down there and we don't use it....

oy.
