I have been searching for a source for red worms to begin an indoor compost! I am excited, but as yet have not found a local source for the worms. Is anyone else here into worms, and have a couple of interesting stories to tell? Or perhaps suggestions? I have been composting for a very long time, but am anxious to add worms to an inside bin.

Hi Shirley. I'd love to hear your stories. My husband and I have a worm bed. But recently the water came up in the yard, and most of the worms are gone. There are still a lot in the compost box. In fact, just today, I got a handful out to fish for a while. I caught a huge catfish. I'll be checking back to read your stories. Marly

I have a worm bin in my dining room. My brother made a comment last summer about how we needed to try vermicomposting that my girls would have fun with it. I pointed to my bin, right out there in the open. He was surprised to see it. He thought perhaps there would be an odor to it. But no!
I bought my first batch of red worms online. The 2nd graders at our local grade school do a session on vermicomposting. Luckily I work there and have asked for the worms when they're done. Otherwise they just dump them in the school yard.

Hello, to you farmgirls who responsed so far to my post about worms and composting! I think I have found a local supplier and am waiting to hear from them. I will need to purchase a bin, etc, and on the suppliers site it states the worms come with a nice little supply of compost and goodies for them! I have read several times the worms do not smell. My first intro to worms information was a book from the library, and it was so amusing i will check it out again. Something about eating dirt, or worms, i can see it but cannot think of the name of it.
