My 19 yo dd got hired yesterday!

update: dd put in her application to a Hobby Lobby (YAY!) No word back yet, but I am praying.

Update: Could you please add, in your prayers, that dd is hired before February 9th?

Sorry if this is a repeated request.

Would you please help me pray that my 20 yo ds and my 18 yo dd get jobs real soon?

Thanks!

Thanks Darlene.

I know the trouble my kids are facing now. This morning I tried to apply to 3 fast food places and one grocery store. All of them do not hand out applications in the store, and I could not find one place on their site(s) to apply unless there was an opening. So frustrating.

As for me, I'm fighting off a cold or something.

This morning I could not drive my one dd to her job shadow day, using the Buick. It had a half flat tire. I took the truck, and thankfully it had 1/4 tank of gas.

However, when I went to the gas station, my card was denied. When I got home, I saw the back truck tire half flat.

When I called the bank, they said there were two foreign purchases on our account. Thankfully, they put a hold, and restricted it until I make sure that dh didn't use it for this (most likely he didn't).

So....I am drinking a up of coffee until my head stops spinning.

The stress of them not working, is really taking a toll on the entire family here.

Thank you for your prayers. They both missed out on a Subway job due to not getting out more to apply more.

Kristi I will continue to pray for you and I sent you a forward from a prayer site, They are really good for me when I need prayer or just comfort.
I will continue to pray for job openings to come up for your children and that they get interested in applying more. I know that a lot of places use computers to apply now and that can be daunting when they aren't user friendly.
Have you tried some of the online job sites like Monster jobs or Indeed or some others. Sometimes they have some there that you don't see in the paper.
You take care ok. Blessings and hugs to you

Thanks.

DD is registered with a site that gives her text messages or alerts when there are jobs to apply for. Not sure if DS is signed up for it.

Nothing yet.

DD applied at a grocery store yesterday. I'm not sure that DS is even job searching anymore. DD's birthday is the 9th, and her car insurance will soon run out.

Have either one of them considered joining a branch of the military? Lots of choices there and would provide training for free and a chance to see the world. A work colleague of mine's daughter joined right after high school to the Navy. She is currently stationed in Japan and assigned to a ship that is currently working in the Pacific. Sh e absolutely loves what she is doing!!!

Something to consider for both of them. Lots of possibilities to choose from.

Hi Kristina,
Try www.monster.com and try temp agencies. Most of the time they will hire you, they just want to "try you out" first.
Bless you and your job seekers.

I don't know if my kids are just having bad luck, not trying hard enough, not applying at every job, or what. They are still unemployed. I do appreciate your prayers.

Continued prayers Kristina. When they try hard and have several applications in they will get called. That happened when my oldest daughter got a job, she tried several places and then started getting several calls from different ones. How are the jobs where you live. I know it is hard everywhere.
Also it depends on how they approach the office when they apply, except for those that are on line now. Maybe you could help them to see that their application looks interesting and if their resume is not too long or have the wrong words on it. I was listening to K-Love and they were talking about Resumes and that there are things that we all put on them that are not acceptable now. Maybe they could get some help in how to do a good one. Do you have an employment development department where they can take a workshop to help them make resumes? We have one here and they do workshops to help you make resumes, interviewing, applications, and all that stuff. It really does help you be able to apply.
I hope it helps and believe me my prayers are continuing for you all.
love

Kristi, have your children go to the Ohio workforce office for your county or region and talk with someone. I work here locally with our workforce board for employment and there are currently federal programs for unemployed youth and adults. The workforce board works with local employers to help the person get hired and then they pay the salary for the first 6 months. Hopefully, after that, the employer will offer regular employment. The workforce office can also assist your children with current job openings that they may not know about as well as classes in skills for employment. The important detail is that you have to go to the office that serves the county that you live in to qualify for any funding that is available. Federal funds have been designated to help get America back to work and currently there may be something in your local office that might help. It cannot hurt and your children may at least learn about where there are other employment opportunities that might work out. Currently students with just a high school diploma are the most challenged in finding work. So many jobs are skill driven and if someone lacks those skills, they are not going to be hired. The workforce board may also have funding to help pay tuition for specific local training programs at the community college that are in demand. Skills like nursing, EMT, construction, automotive, electronics etc. are all areas that currently have higher employment opportunities. It is possible the kids could get specific college program assistance as well. At least if you go there and talk with the people at the workforce office, you may learn of new opportunities and programs that could lead to successful employment. Living in the area that you are currently in is going to be a challenge for anyone to find work if they are not able to live in a large city where there are more opportunities. But the biggest key to employment is to have the skills that employers are looking for and then have some help getting in the door for an opportunity. Workforce boards are here to do those two things for the residents of their counties. I hope this idea is helpful!

Thank you for all your help and prayers.

I brought home two applications for Aldis - they are hiring at $11.50/hr. My son turned his application in today, but my dd refused to even fill it out.

Praising the Lord for your daughter getting a job!
Will pray for her as she gets going on it, that is will be smooth training, she'll like it and she'll be encouraged and nurtured because of doing something productive. That is will be just what she needs!

Hang in there Kristi!
