Without thinking about it I just may have jumped off that ledge of starting my own business with handspun yarn. Problem is I don't have a logo, tags, a name, or much of an inventory. So what on earth am I to do? I know I want the tags to be stamped as I like the looks of it. On names, I am a bit at a loss. I'd like to incorporate hawks somehow. Specifically Red-tailed hawks if possible but I'm on the fence a bit here. I haven't found the name that rings true.
Little Hawk's Handspun Yarn?
Little Hawk's Creations?
I wouldn't mind if it didn't pin me into only wool/fiber and spinning as I may want to expand into other ventures but I'd like it to be distinctive.
The inventory will come, and a logo I can work out if I get off my duff and do that.
Questions to you are:
Any good name ideas or directions to go in?
Any weight you knitters/crocheters/weavers prefer?
Any fiber you prefer?
What are the things that you have a hard time finding in yarns?
What price points have you seen lately?
Thanks so much for your help.

Red Hawk Farms- humanely raised animals ? Sounds good to me. I love merino/silk dyed luscious colors. I understand you can do some great tags on the computer w/ your printer . There are paper labels that you can buy like that. Stamps you can have made. Good luck.

Katrina dont panic :)
it took me a couple of years to decide on a logo. i think a logo should reflect you and your product. as far as tags, it takes time to create one you'll eventually love. when i look back to my first product labels, they were pathetic. but as time went on, and i learned more, my labels evolved and i'm proud of them now. of course i'm always coming up with new ideas for improving them. i think that overall your tags, name etc will just evolve over time.
i wouldnt worry about it all right now, but just keep a notepad close by and jot down whatever ideas you get. draw pics of labels, etc, and check out other businesses that sell a similar product...it will help you to come up with ideas for your own.
even after a while i started my business i changed my business name. I think it's just a part of the process.
i think the inventory is the most important thing you should focus on right now.
i think your ideas will evolve with time. i wish you the best!

How about Hawk's Eye Creations. You could get someone creative to draw a logo that uses the shapes of a hawk's eye. I mean, look at the lines and shapes of this beautiful eye. I especially love the slightly curved line of the brow that hangs over the intense eye. The hawk eye represents close attention to detail which will give a good first impression of your work. If I could draw, I would draw the logo I'm thinking of, but I don't think I can do it...LOL

As for the yarn, I think offering a variety of weights will be helpful. I personally love handspun for shawls and things like that, so I prefer to use a light worsted weight.

How about Ladyhawke Creations? I like the other suggestions, too. Cindy

Wow! You gals are great. This is why I post on here. Now if only I can decide on something. :) I'll start with some research and see what names are in use. Siobhan, I think I'm starting to see the beginnings of a logo. I'm starting to get excited now instead of feeling panic. Whew! Thank you everyone. Any other thoughts will certainly be appreciated.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have finally settled on Little Hawk Yarns. No logo yet but I have my tagline, "Handmade for you." A logo will come in due time. I still need to set prices as well but right now my focus has been getting tags ready and inventory ready. Oh and my display. Here's my sign for the consignment shop. I also have a huge tree and a small tree to display my yarns on.
