Just wanted to say hey and introduce myself... name's Julie :) I'm a cheesehead from Wisconsin :) I'm a 39 year old married farmgal... my hubby is a farmer and works on a huge potatoe farm (they farm over 4000 acres) he drives a Lenco which is a really cool potatoe digger... bigger than a combine... that's in the fall for harvest... he also row marks in the spring and hills the potatoes during growing season... so he's never home LOL
Anywho... I have two cows... Sweetpea (Brownswiss) and 4647 (Holstein) I used to work as a head herdsman at a custom heifer raising operation (5500 head of heifers) but quit when I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter Emily who is now one... My other daughter is 9 now... she's into 4H and showing her critters... We also have two horses (Buckskin QH's) 1 stallion (4 yrs) and his momma who is 17 years old... I used to show extensively in QH and Buckskin shows but now since baby, things have temporarily stopped LOL I have chickens, ducks, geese, and 1 turkey... 6 dogs (Pembroke Welsh Corgi's and 1 Scottish Deerhound) and 1 cat we adopted from the Humane Society.... I make my own butter and icecream, but want to learn how to make cheese... Glad to meet all of you and what a cool forum...

Hi and Welcome Julie! So glad you found us! Your farm and critters sound wonderful! You'll fit in with all of us farmgirls for sure! We all love our animals here and have a varied assortment. That is so neat that you make butter and ice cream. I love the Brown Swiss breed! I raise Dexters. They are the worlds smallest bovine and originate from Ireland. They are like pets. I think you are the first potato farmer on this site! Would love to hear more about your life in Wisconsin! Again, Welcome! Jenny from Kansas

Welcome, Julie - I have a niece named Julie that lives near Janesville, WI, on 10 acres. She hunts turkey!
So glad to have you here, and I look forward to hearing about your farm and your animals and your daily routines of being a farmgirl. How lucky you are, even though I know how hard you must work!

Well howdie do my farm gal friends :) Nice to meet all of you :)
Nice to hear Wisconsin is a familiar for some of you! I just got done cleaning all of my feathered critters pens, made the portable cow pen bigger (great natural brush cutter LOL) unloaded some hay before it rains here... I'm spoiled because I get the nicest hay from my inlaws who have a small 80 farm 6 miles away.. they raise beefers... which I try to make pets out of ... it's so hard to eat what you raise... why do you think I only have 1 turkey this year LOL... What's everyone's typical day like? Well, have to run off to the jewelry store to get another wedding ring for hubby, this is the second time he's lost it cleaning his hands out in the field and this time we were'nt so lucky to find it...it's nice that he wants to wear it so I can't complain... take care and hugs to all,

How fun to have a cow..one of my dreams...sigh...and Wisconsin is so pretty...havn't visited there in years. I lived in Minnesota many years ago. It is great to have you among us. I LOVE your cow's name (sweetpea) that is my nickname for my husband.

Julie, What kind of hay do you get? Is it brome or alfalfa? Brome grass or prairie hay is in big demand here where I live. I am spending the day weeding flower beds, transplanting seedlings to pots, and checking my vineyard for frost damage We have had several nights of frost and it has done a number on my grapes and some of the wheat. We went from 80 degree days to 40 degrees and cooler. The weather so far this year has been bizarre! Jenny

HI Julie, I'm in Wisconsin too, Beaver Dam to be exact! I'm just a wanna-be farmgirl at this point, we rent a house in-town, I so long for some country land of my own!
I'm new here, and will introduce myself properly in another post.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and so happy to see so many Wisconsinites here
