Hey y'all! Been doing some research and learning on how to be more prepared, food storage, 'go bags', etc and in the process came across a video explaining how to store food at home via canning. She uses Knox gelatin in her recipes instead of eggs (to prevent rancid food)...
Well... I don't want to use Knox, I'd rather use Chill Over Powder!

Would this work? If so, what are the equivalencies to 1 egg, shelf life, storage recommendations, ... and maybe some recipes?

I have had Chill Over Powder on my shopping list 'to try' and this would certainly get it in my home. Can I buy in bulk?

Thanks! Sending Ky hugs!~

Hi Amanda,

Can you post the link to the video? Preparedness videos are great and this one sounds like it has some "new to us" information too! We have not experimented with ChillOver as a preservative... yet. This may be something fun to play around with.

Regarding bulk: yeah you can buy in bulk! We have a bulk option available http://shop.maryjanesfarm.org/store/p/65-ChillOver-174-Powder.aspx that is less than 1/2 price per packet than our packaged option. If you were looking for a different bulk size give me a call or send me an email and I can come up with a quote. My phone number is 888-750-6004 and email is BrianOgle@MaryJanesFarm.org

Thanks!

~Brian

Not sure if this is the same thing in the video Amanda mentioned, but my Grandma has a "recipe" to use gelatin as an egg substitute.
Makes one "egg"
1 tsp plain gelatin
3 Tbl cold water
2 Tbl boiling water

Prepare like normal gelatin (mix powder with cold water first, then adding boiling water, mix well).

The video sure sounds interesting!
