I am not having any luck knitting socks on the double-pointed needles.

My question is if I do two-needle socks, can I still us the self stripping and patterned yarn? Will I still get the same effect from the yarn?

I am trying to teach myself how to make socks. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Don't know the answer but have you tried knitting socks on circular needles?

No I have tried circular needles. The cord always seems so long. Maybe I am not doing it right.

I started to get the hang of son's then footed. So I am going to start again tomorrow.

I can do just about any pattern with 2 needles. I just want to use the fun yarns. And hubby just bought me 2 skeins of sock yarn that has a Nordic pattern. Of course when he pays $20 a skein I feel I need to make something beautiful with it.

You can get circular needles with a few different lengths of the cord that attaches to the needles. HiyaHiya has some with 9" and also 11" overall lengths, including the needle part (US sizes 0-3). One of those should work for you, depending on the weight of your yarn.

I would totally go the circular needle route. It's so much easier! The pattern built into the yarn should work fine on them, as long as you stick to any specifications the yarn manufacturer supplies concerning pattern details.

I am knitting on two circular needles instead of four dpns right now for my socks and it is working really well. The stripes come out just the same as they do any other way it has more to do with the tension than it does the needles you use.
