Good morning, girls - ten days 'til Christmas! Can you believe it!?!?

A good friend emailed t his morning, asking for a couple of these layered/cookie jar recipes, so I figured maybe you all might like to have them, too. *<|:)} I have many, many others, so if you're looking for anything special, let me know! And if you have any you'd like to share, please do! The more, the merrier!

Merry Christmas! Enjoy!

------------------------------------

Layered Cookie Mix In A Jar Instructions:

Preparation: Wash and dry quart size wide mouth canning jars and lids.

Layering the Cookie Mix: Be sure to press each layer tightly in order to ensure they fit in jar, smoothing and leveling each layer as you go. Measurements must be exact. Layer in the order that the recipe lists the ingredients (first ingredient goes on the bottom, second is the next layer, etc.). Put on the lid and band, screw tightly. Decorate the jar, if desired.

Decorating the Jar: Trace and cut a circle of fabric about 2” larger than the screw band. After filling the jar, secure the lid and then place fabric over the id and screw on the band tightly. Add a raffia bow or ribbon bow. You may also want to decorate further by attaching an ornament, picture or label, etc.

Recipe Cards: The recipe for the layered cookie mix is listed first, then the instructions to make the cookies - just as you would see in a recipe book. Punch a hole in the corner of your recipe card, then attach it to your jar through the raffia or ribbon.

Nini,
Thank you for sharing. Now friend, I am going to have to go and bake some cookies instead of doing my laundry. Oh well Priority, Priority.
LOL!

Chocolate Chips, here I come. One thing for sure, those chips had better still be in my cabinet, or you will hear me smacking Big Buzz (hubby) with my big bee swatter. (There are times when he will eat half a bag of my semi-sweet morsels.) He tells me, he eats them for medicinal purposes. I tell him, those morsels stop becoming medicinal when you inhale a half bag in one sitting. LOL!

Hugs!

You're so very welcome, girls! I actually have three books full of them, as well as some loose recipes from family and friends. I love to make a big jar of hot chocolate mix every Christmas for my son, too - it's his favorite. These are some of the neatest gifts to make and to receive I think. We make most of our goodies from scratch, so I like to mix up a triple batch of dry ingredients whenever making our favorite baked goods and then dividing it into canning jars with recipes for the add-ins to make later. You don't have to limit yourself to the layered look - I think it's just very pretty for gift-giving. It's a pretty neat thing to have a hankering for homemade brownies, and then just pour out a jar of pre-made homemade mix, add butter and eggs and pop them in the oven! Much yummier and healthier than the boxed stuff, to be sure. So when you're making your favorite layered jar mix, remember to make a couple of extra for yourself! You'll be so glad you did! :)

I'd really love for all of you to share some of your recipes, too, when you have a chance!

Hugs -

Nini

Thanks for sharing all the recipes Nini! I have made layered soups as gifts before, but have never tried cookies. Has anyone ever tried sending this sort of gift across the country? I suppose the decoration of the containers would be more important in such a case? I live in Seattle but my brother's family lives in VT so they would get bounced around a fair bit on the journey and the layers might get mixed up.....for now I will continue to bake the cookies first and send them. But this would be a fun idea for my neice and nephews next year.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Thank you, Nini! I will have to keep these for next year - wanted to do them this year but gave my family homemade peach butters and jellies instead, along with mini loaves of bread (which they loved)!
