This is all very new to me!
I live in Connecticut, in a town that used to be all farms, and is now a suburb. My 12-year-old daughter (my youngest) has been part of a local farm program for the past couple of years, and every month gets more dedicated. It's hard not to be enthusiastic, and I was thrilled when I found this site. I want to take baby steps, and MaryJane's philosophy seems a great place to start.

I wish I had chickens, that would make my name make sense! But I pulled it from my street name which is spelled like the farm animal but is named after an Indian whom settlers recorded as "Chi-ken." It's an old Indian trail -- all rocks and woods. We do get wild turkeys roaming through, but no chickens. |

Welcome, Laura! This is certainly the best place to 'hang out' and make friends. Your daughter being involved in farm stuff may just be the catalyst to a lifestyle for you. My kids showed animals for 4H....they're out of school now....and I still have about 60 farm animals!
One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt." |
