Crochet with Rags...How do you join new pieces of cloth? Knot on or stitch in?

Knitting...What do you ladies use for stitch markers? I can't find anything that makes me happy. I started out using small safety pins because I had them on hand, but they take some fumbling with and mess up my rythem. So I bough a set that looks like opened up "q"s and they just fall out. Is there anything that really works?

Thanks, Trina

you can do either depends on the look you want finished or shabby chich(sp) you can also cast them in as you would yarn if you ran out while crocheting with yarn.

As markers
You can use cabone rings just a plastic circle they come in differnt sizes

I use them in romanian lace but they work for what your doing too. Follow link to my site and you will see a picture of one this would be for a marker on the needles not one that stays on the work

if you want it to stay on the work use a knitters safety pin not a normal saftey pin. A knitters saftey pin has no loop at the bottom.

I know you can buy then from heindselmans in Provo Utah I don't know where else these are little like normal safety pins not the stitch holder big ones.

here is the link to the article that has the cabone rings in it on my blog so you don't have to go through everything but you can if you want

If I use fabric strips, then you can snip a hole in each end, place them together one over the other, bring up the tail of the new strip, pull it through the hole, and pull it, and you can crochet the knot to the bottom of the rag rug! Hope this helps!

for knitting markers go to Etsy.com and search under knitting markers or stitch markers..I got some beautiful beaded ones that I am in love with really reasonable in a set of 4..they came in a little felt pouch. I think it was $6 and came with a row marker as an added freebie..really special!! I will look up the seller's name if you want.I used to use safty pins and then little round rings like tiny curtain rings but I LOVE these!!

Crochet rugs, You can knot, stitch in, make a slit in the old/new strip (like berries said) or you can also cut the ends on a bias and sew them together.

Thanks for all the help, ladies. As for the knitting, I think I have spent more time figguring out where to replace lost markers than actualy making my sons sweater! Those ones Jenny found on Etsy sound really cute. The crochet advice was much needed as well. I am not making a rug yet...need one more old sheet in the right colors...but I am making crochet trivits for christmas gifts. I knit the sweater at night when my nosey children arnt around to ask questions and will start working on the trivits durring the day.

Thanks so much! Trina
