I've discovered a treasure trove of really neat old knowledge. If you go to Google books and do a search for whatever you want to look up, you'll find all manner of new to old to ancient books. Some of the books are from the 19th to early 20th century and are rather quaint You just have to pick a topic and search for it, patience is needed because some times there are hundreds of titles on the subject of varying degrees of usefulness. Single words get the best topic returns, such as "baking" "farm" "herbs" or "sewing". Books that are public domain books are usually older than 1950 and these are generally free to download on PDF. There are old classics, old cookery books, herbals, dye books, homemaking books, farming books, sewing books etc. I've downloaded quite a few, the latest is "Colonial cookery from old Virginia" which has some lovely old recipes. I can imagine them being cooked on an old iron wood stove I love the recipes in some of the books for sweet scented waters to spritz on during ironing, the old recipes for herbal hand creams, and dyes recipes, beer making and sundry home crafts. Many of these old books are just as useful today as when they were written for the homesteader, crafter or just someone who loves the old timey things. It's a useful resource, so I wanted to share

Here's an old wood working plans book with many things useful to anyone who can do basic carpentry. There is an orchard ladder, a milking stool...just useful things to make! I love wood working, so this is a real treasure to me down load is about 4mb

Sounds wonderful - will have to check that out. I love books, but I have to control myself at the book store! You wouldn't believe how many books I had before the fire and the insurance company wanted me to inventory every single title to get reimbursed for them! Maybe some of them will be on the google books!
