Here's one way I did that -- was so easy and quick -- http://troutwife.blogspot.com/2011/04/quick-redesign.html

I've also done the more traditional type which use the upper part of the jeans intact and just add panels to the front and back -- my suggestion with that way is make sure you use a pair of jeans which are not very snug for the tops. :)
