Hi Farmgirls,
I have finally been getting back into my knitting and handwork and have been teaching to my girls as part of our homeschooling (just started this year!) Anyway, I've been personally experimenting with different needle sizes and have been using very large ones (biggest size I have is 15). I was wondering if there is a size bigger than that - and if so, where can I find them? My friend who knits says she thinks her late grandmother had some bigger than that, but she hasn't seen them in years. Is she wrong and there are not ones bigger?
Thanks for any thoughts on this!

I have never seen any size bigger than 15's. I knit with a 10 at the largest, esp when making an afghan. Maybe you could check online; Herrschner's has a lot of knitting products.
I remember teaching my kids to knit. Such good memories!
Happy knitting!

I am so glad my friend's recollections were right and there are needles bigger than 15. Now that I have the size numbers I can do a good internet search for them later. I've just been excited about the way the oversize needles are making some of my projects look - it's very different and I'm having a good time experimenting.

I just finished a shawl using a US 19. My Michaels has some bigger sizes but your best bet is to order online.

Try Jo Ann's I have always had good luck with them, sign up for their flyers on-line, and sometimes they offer free shipping. Roxanna |

35's and 50's are my favorite. I like to make scarves and shawls with multiple strands of yarn, they work up very quickly. My mom made me a sweater with 6 strands of yarn on size 50 needles-it was the warmest sweater I have ever owned and that was back in 1968. I think I saw some at Michaels last time I was in there. Q is my favorite size crochet hook for the same reason. Have fun!

I called every craft store within a reasonable distance from us and finally found one that had sizes 19, 35 and 50!!! Just picked them up today! SO excited! And I can't wait to try them out. Thanks, Farngirls, for giving me the size numbers so I could track down a store that carried them!
