I went to the annual open house yesterday at the local wildlife center and saw all kinds of animals. There were barn owls, screech owls, bald eagles, hawks, a coyote, a red fox, and a gray fox. I've never seen a gray one before. the reds are pretty common but the grays seems more reclusive. They can climb trees like a cat. It was about the size of a red fox with some red on its shoulders and the rest of it was coyote-colored. The bobcats had been recently re-released to the wild so their cage was empty. And there were vultures. They look kind of hideous on the ground but when they're flying, people often mistake them for eagles. There were some barred owls and some great horned owls as well. And kestrels, which are the smallest falcon in North America. and the weather was wonderful. I'd like to volunteer there but I know there's no way I could get there when it snows--it's just too far out in the country. On a very curvy, hilly road. But I'm glad they had such a nice weekend for it. And there were lots of visitors. In another month, the eagles should start arriving for the winter. Reminds me, I should put out some seed and suet for the wild birds. It's supposed to get cold tonight. Cindy
