Hello Farmgirl Sisters, Just wanted to say I am praying that anyone in "Sandy's" path stays safe, and that we dont have too much damage. I know the media loves to hype things up, but I do think this is going to amount to some damage, and power outages for sure. Glad I have all of my farmgirl skills, which have helped me to prepare. To all here in the NorthEast, and anyone on the Eastern coast, please do what you can to stay safe. Hugs,
~Laurie "Little Hen House on the Island" Farmgirl Sister#1403

I just got on the computer to send a FB message to a friend who lives on the Jersey Shore. Stay safe Laurie and any other farmgirls in Sandy's path!
Hugs, Tammy

Thank you friends! They have issued a state of emergency and have already cancelled school for the next 2 days during the storm. It is already very very windy here- rain has not started yet. They are saying we should expect the worst of it from mid afternoon Monday thru late afternoon Tuesday. I will update as I can, but expect that we will loose power by mid day tomorrow and honestly it could be quite a while before it is back up. Your prayers are greatly appreciated- it sounds like this one is going to be a doozy! Hugs,

Oh, Laurie! I am praying for you!!! So scarey.
The parents in our school district received calls today as well announcing that schools will be closed beginning Tuesday and for the rest of the week. They told parents they just don't know what to expect, that they are anticipating a few days without electricity and in light of the state of emergency, they feel having the kids stay home is the safest decision.
We're hunkered down and ready. My hubby still has to go to work, though, which is making me very uneasy. He's not worried, though, and I've got a whole bunch of things ready for him to take on the road with him, just in case. I just pray if it gets bad enough, his boss will send everyone home. He'll be an hour or so away... It's going to be a long wait for him to get home, that's for sure. Please say a little prayer for his safety.
Hugs -

Nini- Sending prayers your way as well! I pray that your DH's boss sends them home early! We anticipate no electricity here for a while during/after the storm. The power company has already called us and said to expect at least 7-10 days of outages....As much as I am looking forward to playing "farmgirl- pioneer woman" I hope that it doesnt last quite that long. Prayers being said for all affected and in the path of this monster. Hugs,

I know what you mean, Laurie... playing "Laura Ingalls" can be fun at first, but after a while, you just want to be able to connect with the world and watch a little t.v., am I right? They are calling for massive power outages here, too, but they haven't said how long they're anticipating it to be out. They did just say on the news that we could get over 2 feet of snow! WOW. We'll see. I'm as ready as I'm going to get, I think. I know it's going to be a lot worse for all of you, though. I'm not complaining. I will definitely look forward to "seeing" you again in the posts once this is over, though. Please be safe, please evacuate if they tell you to, and please be sure to touch base as soon as you are able. I'll be thinking of you and praying! Hugs - Nini

Laurie, I am praying for your safety there on the island and others in Sandy's path. Having lived in FL and LA for so long, I know all about hurricanes! I do not think we will get that much here in upstate NY, but taking precautions anyway. Hope your power stays on.
Hugs, Portia

I have been watching the news all morning and it is a scary thought about this is going to hit us pretty dead on. I am glad for my certificate to MJF for the farmgirl of the year. I used most of it to purchase camping food, and now it looks like we will be using it. We have been told to have enough food for 10 days of no lights. we have our grill ready to go for heating water for the MJF food, which is awesome, highly recommend the bare burrito. we live at the top of a hill and I dug trenches throughout our backyard during the last rainfall to help with the flooding. Right now the winds are steady but the bursts are scary. Even to make things worse, the winds are only 6 mph away from a catagory 2, yeah, a catagory 2 hitting jersey. I am praying for everyone so much.
Please add to your prayers my in-laws, they made no preperations in northern jersey, saying that the news was making a big deal out of nothing. I know I pray every few minutes for them.
Good luck girls and stay safe.

My friend Jenny lives blocks from the beach on the Jersey Shore. She is updating on FB as long as she can, but says power is flickering and that 17,000 are already without power in NJ already. They are ready to evacuate at any time....so scary!

Praying for y'all Laurie, Nini and Emily! And Everyone else!
My brother drives large fuel trucks in Texas and his company has a FEMA contract. So he left yesterday with his truck, his job will be to provide fuel for emergency vehicles. I'm worried about him, but I know he loves to be of help during a crisis. He should be in New York State by now. His name is Joseph if anyone wants to call his name in prayer...and all the other hard working men and woman who'll be out in the storm!

Going to try and tyoe this quickly. It is now 5:00PM and the winds are really starting to kick up. The official storm is due to hit in a few hours. We have already lost power twice, but it has come back on after about 1/2 hour- I know that shortly we will loose it and it will be off for quite a while. There are already many big trees down all over, and the storm hasnt even really "hit yet". I continue to pray for everyone in the path of this terrible storm, and thank you all for your prayers. We are all set to head downstairs to the basement in a little while, where we will spend the night, for fear of the huge trees that hover over our home. I will update when I can, and hope other farmgirls will check in when they can, altough I know this will be difficult soon when we loose power. Stay safe everyone! Hugs,

Although there are lots of people around us who have lost power here in the Boston area, DH and I are fine. We had alot of high wind and rain throughout the afternoon and night yesterday. I have not been outside to see if anything near us is flooded, but I feel truely blessed that we are safe and fine. It broke my heart and I cried tears when I heard on the news that parts of the Atlantic City NJ boardwalk had blown away. I grew up in Phila, PA and my grandmother lived just outside Wildwood. I was going to Atlantic City long before the casinos and have so many good memories. One of my earliest memories as a child is when my grandmother took me to see the horse diving into the little tub of water in Atlantic City. Praying this am that all farmgirls are safe and unflooded. Laurie, I know you in Long Island got hammered and I think Portia lives near there too. Keeping you close in my heart and offering us prayers for all affected by this huge storm. Joey

Farmsisters in the path of Sandy. My prayers are with each of you and all of your loved ones, beit family, friends and pets.
Please do not venture out..stay put and stay safe. Keep in touch when you can.
God Bless Debbie H Buzzn Bee
The winds here in Muncie Indiana are bending the trees and stripping them of their beautiful fall foilage. Our lights keep flickering, but we have yet to lose power. Hubby "Big Buzz" just told me, the winds are to exceed 60-70 miles per hour by this afternoon.
We are pretty much staying glued to the television. |
