'Tis the Season to start thinking about what we are grateful for.

Sometimes it can be really hard to see what we have through the tough tough stuff that life can throw our way.

Recently Doug made a huge change for us. And it happened very quickly. Back in July, he applid for and was offered a job. He had applied for a job in Laurel (15 minutes outside of Billings), but they offered him a job in our hometown. But then they delayed and delayed and finally put the breaks on the job offer. They recinded the offer in late September/early October. It was a huge blow and Doug was crushed.

Then a week later they called and said- wait! We need to talk with you again! So he ended up having to re-interview for the job and was reoffered the job. So he quit his current job and started working for this new company...but that means that he AND Nora are now living in our hometown with my parents and I am 3 hours away from them. We still struggle paycheck to paycheck and I work while trying to finish my graduating semester with passing grades. We don't really have the money for a lot of trips back and forth.

So lately I have been pretty down. There have been a lot of changes lately and I have felt a bit- cut adrift.

But this morning I realized I need to turn my thinking around. I need to be grateful for this opportunity. I am grateful that soon- very soon- we will be back together again as a family and we will be able to be closer to the rest of the family whom we love to spend time with.

I am grateful for my friends and connections that I have made both in Idaho and Montana while I lived in both. I am grateful that I have a place to live in while I finish my degree and a job that will keep the lights on. I am grateful that I have two great dogs who are happy to see me when I come in the door each night.

So I realized that even through the tough stuff- I have a lot to be grateful for and THAT should be my focus. The tough stuff is still there but it is actually a fleeting thing with a better future ahead.

Well said, Alee. Focus on the positive, see the good. I could just see the two dogs greeting you at the door. Grateful dogs!!

That's the spirit!! Sometimes we have to sit down, look around and realize what we do have and know nothing is permanent.

Alee,

I am very grateful that I too have met you and had you in my life. Do not despair, you will be graduated with your degree and home with your family in no time. I will miss you greatly, but wish you only the best.

If you need to talk or go shopping to whittle the time away give me a call. I am currently not working and I am home all day.

Alee ~ You are a woman of great strength and determination. You are doing this to give you and your family a stronger future. Things seem to be ever so slowly looking up in the economy and job markets and we can hopefully see a day not too far down the road where we can live a little better on the money that we make. I know that the going is tough and trying to keep it all together is even harder, but I have faith in you to make it through all this. HUGS!

What a great post Alee! Before you know it you will be back with Doug and Nora. Kudos for you for realizing that despite what we may think, we ALL have so much to be grateful for!

Alee, I keep a gratitude journal and write down every day 3-5 things I am grateful for that day. Sometimes, I am grateful only that the day is over. Please count that you have so many farmgirls here that care about you and your family so much. We are thinking of you and praying that the time flies till you are all together again. It will make for a very happy holiday. Sending you hugs, Joey

Thank you everyone! Nora and I got to talk through the Facebook video chat (hosted by Skype but easier...) this morning. It was great. I am so grateful that we have that opportunity. I think of all our service men and women that don't get to see their familes and am humbled that my struggle really is not going to be too long and is much easier than some of the issues they have to go through.

Alee your thoughts and comments are going to make my day brighter. I need to focus on positive things too. What a great reminder, and I hope you and your family only grow closer during this time apart.

Thank you Jeannie! I got to chat with Nora again this morning. It was a lot of fun. Doug has a day off which is nice but I wish our days off would work better with Nora's school week so we could visit more. Oh well. I am going to go out and see my horse today and give her lots of attention and maybe go riding a little bit. It should be fun!
