1st off...Thanks for serving our country! Bless you!
I've thought about starting a chapter, but it's a big commentment, so I'll be watching to see what others say. I know how it feels to what to surround yourself with farmgirls and share ideas! Good Luck!

I'd say go for it. I was not sure what to do when I started my chapter, and it's been fun and great. Keep it casual and do what you can. Really, what do you have to lose?

You can do whatever you like. It's up to you. When I started mine a few years back, I got a cute packet in the mail, with "membership certificates" to hand out, and a few bumper stickers. There's no rules, but I keep the rules that it's supposed to be friendly and fun, we don't discuss politics or religion, but that's just me. We just went apple picking this weekend, and it was great. I also love to hostess pot lucks and craft nights.
Good luck! Nicole

To find potential member for your chapter, you might want to look right on your on USMC post: there might be other gals from all over the nation who would enjoy the homey-ness of getting together with other women to nurture each other's "inner farmgirl." I grew up in an Air Force family. There were all kinds of rec centers on base where the active military and their dependents could find a wide range of activities to get involved in. I imagine USMC posts are the same. Ask what the drill is for starting a club and where you're allowed to put up notices. The post probably has a family newsletter of some sort that might run a little news item about your chapter's formation. And don't worry about getting transferred after setting up a chapter. You can always hand off "Head Hen" responsibilities to another chapter member. If all or most of you are military, it should be taken for granted that changeovers will happen. You can even do farmgirl versions of military "hail and farewell" parties when members have to leave or new ones come in. |
