So I planted a bed of Kohlrabi and harvested it, now what? My DH loves Kohlrabi raw but I don't think it will keep very long. Has anyone here canned it? I saw somewhere that you can cube it up and pressure can it like potatoes. Has anyone here ever done this? I would also appreciate any recipes or other preservation ideas you have. I did make an awesome Cream of Kohlrabi soup the other day. I used my tried and true potoato and ham soup recipe but substitued cubed Kohlrabi for the potatoes. It was yummy! Thanks for your help!

Diane I googled "Jackie Clay Kohlrabi" & found this. If anyone can answer a canning question, it is her. Scroll down for the kohlrabi Q & A http://www.backwoodshome.com/advice/ajo061113.html |

I tried growing Kohlrabi last spring, nothing happened, How do your grow yours and when do you plant ? I live in southwest Mo. My husband loves it. I never heard of it until we married. I finally found some in the grocery store, he ate one like an apple and I found some recipes in my cookbooks. Using the potato soup recipes sounds a good place to start, It's damp and chilly here today, good time for soup. Thanks Farmgirl sister #1815 |

Diane - I've never canned kohlrabi, but I have roasted it with garlic, oil, salt & pepper in big batches and then have frozen it to take out later for other meals... YUM!!! Lucky you, though - my fall plantings aren't nearly ready to pick yet! :) Good luck! - Nini
