'Just wondering, girls - what are you all doing this weekend? Are there special events going on in your area? Are you taking in a movie? Going to see some cool museum exhibit? Attending a play or cultural event? Visiting an orchard or favorite pumpkin patch? Taking in a college game? Are you working on projects for the holidays? Having a family celebration? Going to a really great American-made factory sale? What's what in your neck of the woods???

We're going to have chilly rain, so I'm probably just going to clean house tomorrow, do some laundry, bake and then work on my Swap projects.

If the weather clears enough, though, and if it's not too, too chilly and damp for the bones, there are two REALLY cool things going on in our area I'm dying to check out:

First, Meadowcroft Living History Museum in Avella has just re-created a 16th century Indian village based on archaeological evidence from the area that we'd love to check out. You can explore the inside of a wigwam, see recreated prehistoric artifacts and try out a prehistoric spear thrower calld an atlatl. They also have a traditional Three Sisters garden and a hunting camp complete with furs, hunting tools and fishing equipment.

Second, there's a great event going on at Hartwood Acres called the Allegheny Green & Innovation festival, where you can learn about sustainable living and innovations. They're calling it a zero-waste event, or "ZeeWee", which means they will apply the principles of "reduce (waste), reuse (materials for another event) and recycle (food scraps, and paper and plastic products)" throughout the entire event. It ought to be pretty cool. The event will include earth-friendly food and product vendors, crafters, green living demonstrations and lots of hands-on activities.

Oh, heck... I don't want to clean... Who am I kidding?? LOL! If it's even CLOSE to being nice out, I might talk myself into letting the cleaning bucket rest for another couple of days so we can spend quality family time together and enjoy at least ONE of these events!!! LOL!

So, tell me, what cool happenings are you looking forward to this weekend?

Hugs -

Nini

I will be watching college and NFL football all weekend. The only thing better for me would be to be at the actual game.

Selling aprons and such at Farmers Market tomorrow, after which I'll have to go get a few groceries. After we get home, unload and rest a bit. Then start planning the sewing projects for the next Market day. We plan to go through the 20th of October.
Sunday, Jeremy (our son) will be visiting . . perhaps we'll take a drive up into "my mountains" to see the fall colors before it's too late. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see "my mountains" any time, but when the "quakies" (aspens) are turning the mountains are glorious!!!
No football for us, but enjoy it Marly.

Going to the farm for our last CSA pickup of the season (sniff!), putting up more Halloween decorations and shopping for Violet's little friend, Sky's, 5th birthday gift. I'm sure that will involve some sort of fairy wings/dress up princess stuff.

Cooking. We are back from vacation, I have tons of food in the house, a chill is in the air and I plan on making some REALLY good meals this weekend!

On Sunday, I might trek down to Madison, Indiana for their Chataqua arts festival. I need to spend money on that stuff like I need a whole in my head. Or, I might just head over to Lowe's and get some insulation and finish my basement project. Chataqua sounds better :)

Sounds like y'all have some fun stuff in the works. Tonight my oldest daughter is going to the homecoming football game and dance. First normal teenager thing she has asked to do in a long time. I'm a little nervous, but excited too. She's always been a bit of a loner, but I know the kids she will be hanging out with are good kids The rest of the fam is hanging out at home. We are going to finish up gathering yard sale goodies for tomorrow and I'm going to unwind and finish work on some prayer boxes for class.

Tomorrow morning yard sale till noon and my son's boy scout troop begins selling popcorn. Then a family reunion in the afternoon and tomorrow night, my sister's wedding rehearsal. Maybe some friends coming over late for cards or board game.

And finally Sunday... church in the morning, then decorate the church and then the wedding later afternoon. Then the reception and wedding dinner.

Breathing and sleeping are not in the plans LOL.

Hugs~ Melanie

Nini, I am going to be so disappointed if I find out you picked up a cleaning bucket this weekend! Both the Indian village and Green & Innovation festival sound like so much fun! Heck, if my car wasn't such a hooptie, I'd be packing my bags for Pennsylvania right now! I would especially love to see the Indian village!

Marly, Have fun watching the game!

CJ, Good luck with farmers' market and have a great day with Jeremy. I think about him every once in awhile and wonder what ever happened with his caregiver, Libby (I think it was??), and how she is doing. Maybe you posted something and I missed it. I wish I could call them "MY mountains!" Have a lovely drive....I bet it is just beautiful.

Jonni, Sky's birthday party sounds like fun, fun, fun! I hope you and violet have fun picking out everything fairy and princess. I was excited when you said you were going to Madison until I realize it was Indiana and not Wisconsin! And you're right! Chataqua does sound more fun!

Melanie, I hope your daughter has a good time at homecoming! It sounds like you will be one busy person this weekend and I understand in these situations you don't get much sleep, but remember to breath! Please, please remember to breath! :)

Roxanna, Sorry you have to work, but have a great time at Canal Days next weekend!

Whew! I wasn't planning on writing this much! Tomorrow my dad and I are going to head to the farmers' market to look for squash since ours didn't ripen. We have beans to freeze too. On Sunday we are having Sunday dinner at my mom's place. I got some pears from a friend's tree so I am planning on making a pear cake with lemon-honey cream cheese frosting. Sounds so good, but I've never used this recipe before so we will see. After dinner, we are going to go for a walk down the bike trail. I don't know how many miles the bike trail spans, but it is long. We like to find different access points so we can see different parts of the trail.

Hope you all have wonderful weekends!

Well, DH is coming home after being gone for 2 weeks (he's been off and on home all summer). He should get in tonight. Then we will be going to the lumber yard tomorrow to get the material to finally build a winter home for my chicks! He's meant to do it but like I said, he's not really been home much. Working out of state is for the birds (not my chickens). We haven't gotten much more than normal maintenance done around the homestead. Anyway, I digress! Saturday night we are going to friends for an end of summer bbq party, there will be 4 couples there and one we've never met. Sunday will be church and probably brunch in town and more work on the chicken coop. I'll be living it up this weekend because next Wednesday I have to have a tooth pulled (it broke clear down to the gum line). Ugh! (I'm getting a bridge)

Sounds like a busy weekend for everyone!

Worked all day today on Chicken yard. Want to redo one more house before the winter (haha) sets in. Nothing like what you ladies have, but none the less, our Texas weather. Still have to protect the ladies. I cleaned out some houses today, and cleaned the waterers and feeders. Was gonna work on the chicken house tomorrow, but the clouds have moved in and rain is coming. Tonight is homecoming here also, but hubby is sick with bad sniffles, and cold, so we won't be out in showers and night air. We have twin granddaughters, one is in band and one in drill team. I caught up on housework today and washing. Everything is clean, and put away, so I will get to spend time in the craft room. Working on a quilt, and also getting things ready to sell at craft sale in Nov.
Have a great weekend--Stay dry, bbq parts sounds fun, may have to put something on the grill...... Farmgirl #946 Linda

We will be going to Yellowstone National Park this weekend as the park starts to close down for winter the last of October and re opens to winter travel during the Christmas/Holiday season. We have been very dry and hot in this part of the country this past summer and so far this fall. We hope to take some early fall pictures and see some wildlife.

Last weekend we went to the Missouri Breaks National Monument to watch and hear the elk bugle. What a show. You have to see my pictures on my blog. (johnandmadelynne@blogspot.com)

Nini, your surroundin's sound a lot more interestin' than around here! We're going to be working in the garage making wooden soap molds. The hubby has made two in the past two days and they are so pretty. I think I'll put them up at the website for sale. He's a perfectionist and so it is sloooooowwwwww going. :-) It's finally raining here which is just a miracle and so it's A-OK to be stuck inside doing woodwork!

Tomorrow we are heading to the Long Island Fair held at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. You can view it here: www.lifair.org.
We went several years ago and it is alot of fun and very interesting. Lots of good ole fashioned family fun! I am bringing my Aunt with me and my 12 year old DD is bringing her best friend. Girls day out and we are all looking foward to it!

Sounds like everyone is busy, busy! This is just such a great time of year- with so much to do, and real nice Fall weather. Its definately my favorite time of year!

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Wow, all you farmgirls are enjoying so much Fall fun....apple picking, festivals, fairs, fall foliage! Here in California we are expecting triple digit weather...grrr...yuck! I'm so jealous of all of you. My weekend will be, as usual, revolving around my 14 year old daughter's social life! Football game tonight, "hanging out" tomorrow, shopping for homecoming dress, shoes, etc. on Sunday! Who knew Homecoming was such a big deal for Freshman!! dress, shoes, hair, makeup, spray tans, yikes! I shudder to think about the next four years. I will try to get some crafting done in between....I've got an altered matchbox calling my name!

Ugghhh....I will be finishing up DD's bedroom and staging it for the appraisal-Just a few paint touch up's, but have to put up new blinds, replace her head board-Remembered I had an antique Hitchcock frame in the basement that will do nicely-Then I will begin the "landing", de-cluttering the linen closet and painting the bedroom doors-

It is a GORGEOUS fall day here in the Great North Woods and I am STUCK inside-I am tempted to put down my paint-brush, grab my camera, and hit the road!

Hoping my farmgirl sisters have a pleasant and relaxing weekend....

Well . . . it DOES sound like you girls have all kinds of things in the works!!!
ENJOY IT ALL!!

I came sooooooooooooo close to selling out at Farmers Market today . . . it was an amazing sales day! This is my 5th year selling aprons and September-October are typically very busy months because folks are starting their Christmas shopping! That means this week will be a very, very busy sewing week for me to be prepared for next Saturday. YAY!!

The drive into "my mountains" today was AWESOME . . . FALL GOLD! Priceless! Rich! I'll post some pics later on my blogspot.
However, our drive was delayed for almost an hour because we had to have a little rodeo . . one of our Longhorn cows decided to get through the fence and go on a little trip up the hill and down the road. My hubby had to go get the 4-wheeler to get past her, turn her around and back down the hill into the pasture. Giddy-up! Yeehaw! Ya-hoo!

AND, Jeremy's caregiver is doing very well! Has been doing well for quite some time and we're grateful. She left a message on the phone this evening that "they are out of town" and we won't be spending tomorrow with him. She has family out of town and takes Jeremy to visit them frequently which is great! They treat him like he is part of their family . . so they're on a little weekend away. So, it'll be just Bill and me.

GORGEOUS Colorado Fall days! Just GORGEOUS!

I have enjoyed the company of my sister-in-law this weekend beginning last Friday. We have had a wonderful time chatting and telling funny stories about the family. She and my DH are very close so we can all get along so well. We have watched 2 old movies on the TV. " Moonstruck" which was so romantic and funny and then we all watched "Phantom of the Opera" which is so special. We ate fish at good restaurants and we walked in the forest near my house. Just a great weekend.

Yesterday I had to run all over town, picking up one dd at a sleepover, taking another to turn in her fundraising money, then picking up pet food, and back home again.

When I got home, I did several loads of laundry, and made homemade dog treats in my dehydrator. I also chopped about 20 garden peppers and froze them. I also took school photos of my 15 yo dd outside. This year I am taking all the photos myself (so much cheaper and the kids get what they want, and there are no leftovers sitting around in drawers).

I am busy crocheting 4 scarves that were ordered also.

Today, hubby is working on the farm truck (has a bad leak), helping me get the chainsaw running, possibly getting a load of wood, splitting wood, and working in the garden.

I may be picking up free crab apples too. I have to call and see if they have any left.

Hubby hopes to watch some football today, so I he does, I will have more time to crochet.

Outside of that, I don't have time for any special events etc.

Wow - you all have such great things going on... Even the work stuff sounds good to me! ;)

We are experiencing nasty cold rain and thunderstorms, so I did end up pickin' up the cleaning bucket...even reorganized the kitchen cabinets, and got some much-needed grocery shopping out of the way. My hubby ended up working both days also, so, whatchagonna do? Everything happens for a reason and time wasn't wasted, that's for sure. I got a lot accomplished, and to be honest, it's all a big weight off my shoulders. I feel so much more relaxed now. And even though we didn't get to do some of the more fun things I wanted to do this weekend, all is not lost! Today I've got a nice pork roast with kraut slow-cooking in the oven, the Macintosh candles are lit, and I'm working on my swap projects which, for me, is a lot of fun. Next weekend's apple pickin' and apple pies and applesauce-making... and the Indian Village isn't closing anytime soon, so we'll get there.

(Mary Beth, honest-to-Pete - there is ALWAYS so much to do here! With all the historical places to visit, the museums, the natural beauty and parks, the sports, the arts, the cultural and holiday events, and other activities Western PA has to offer, we can always find something to do. If we're ever bored, it's our own fault! LOL!)

'Hope you're all having better weather where you live!

Hugs -

Nini

What busy farmgirls! This is the first weekend I've been home in several weeks so I've been catching up with much needed housecleaning and chores. The weather has been beautiful here. Yesterday morning I went for a nice long walk. Today I snuck outside for a bit to water plants, fill the bird feeders and do a few other outside chores. Paul's 2 yo grandson was here for a quick visit this morning so we "hid" some peanuts for the squirrels and jays, too. I still have a little bit more cleaning to finish up and a couple more loads of laundry to fold. Then I'm going to make some Swedish meatballs to go in the crockpot for dinner tomorrow. After that I'll be able to relax for the rest of the evening. Might finally be able to finish the book I've been reading!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Sounds like everyone had a wonderful weekend--the weather was just plain gorgeous here, couldn't have asked for better. I did somehow manage to stay inside almost all day yesterday, instead of going to the Chatqua festival in Madison, Indiana--I ended up doing about 20 loads of laundry, swapping out fall/winter clothes and putting away spring/summer and actually giving a large majorioty of the clothing to charity. I found stuff tucked away in drawers that I haven't worn in years--Buh Bye! It's very liberating, and now I can make plans to rent a pick up and move my Empire era chest of drawers over to my house that has been sitting in my mom's basement for the last 7 years!

Roxanna, it's been many years since I've been to Canal Days at Metamora--we used to go all the time when I was younger. Metamora is only about an hour from me, but I love Madison, Indiana so much we go down more frequently to visit. The Chataqua festival is just so darn amazing--art that you can't find just anywhere.
