do any of you have a 'costume box' or 'closet' for your children?
lucas (5) has such a fun collection of costumes ... he asked me the other day when we went to run some errands if he could go as 'superman' ... i told him 'sure' .. that will be fun.
the caped crusader 'flew' through the aisles and everyone got such a giggle out of him. this is a great time of the year to find costumes (and of course, they can create their own from clothes in OUR closets and trunks too) ... we got him a 'pirate' costume .. (my favorite in his collection so far!) ...AND .. wednesday refers to her children as 'angel babies' .. soooo .. i saw the most adorable white 'baby angel' costume for 0 - 3 months ... white sparkly tulle skirt .. cute little stretchy top ... WINGS and HALO .. soooooo .. i got it ... hung it on her wall above her crib on white satin ribbon.
going back to get another one we saw ... i call sofia 'precious pretty princess' when 'cooing' at her during bottle feeding time (wednesday PUMPS .. sofia is having some trouble 'latching' .. but has another appointment with a latching specialist this week ... she mostly said give her a few weeks .. she'll 'catch' on!) anyhoo ... there is a 'pretty pink princess' costume that i want to get for her. sooooo adorable! NOW .. i'm looking all over for the perfect 'ballerina' costume ... (wednesday was a ballerina and is now on the Toledo Ballet Board of Directors) .. will make one if i can't find one.
do your kids love costumes too?
hmmmmm .. i think this is hereditary .. since, i somewhat dress in 'costumes' lots of days!

I have been on the board of the Tallahassee Ballet, and am now on the board of Friends of Dance at Florida State University. The best part of it is access to old costumes for Abigail! Next week, she gets to dress up as a ballerina for her ballet class. The little ones get several ballerina dress up days throughout the year.
For almost 16 years, we held a fundraiser called the Sugarplum Fair each autumn, and our booth of old costumes was always the first to sell out! Abigail has her own dress-up drawer in her room and the funniest thing she does is put ALL of them on at once and then she looks like a huge strange character I cannot even describe. It cracks us up to see her coming down the hall with all of it on!

Tell Wedensday to hang in there! My little guy (9 weeks) just "got it" as far as the latch goes - and pumping is a real drag!!! I had to do it for 12 weeks with my first, but little Sofia will get it!!!! A plus side to the pumping is that Wednesday can have someone else do the "midnight feed" sometimes and she can catch some extra zzzzzz....
We had a costume box growing up that had all of my mother's old dresses and shoes - we also had some of my grandmother's formal dresses and hats. I SO wish I had them NOW!

I have a big basket of dress up clothes the four little girls play with, then there is my closet which when I look in there sometimes looks like it belongs in a costume box. You know that thing where you never have anything to wear. I sure liked it at the store but something happened to it once it got into my closet.

I keep a costume box and it has sure come in handy. I need to get a bigger one for this year though...It is just too full for the size of the box. I want to get a real big rubbermaid tub.
It is so fun to have costume stuff handy. My kids are making final decisions right now for Halloween.

We don't have a costume box, they just reside in the closet with the rest of the clothing. Saterday and Sunday my oldest daughter paraded around as a Southern Belle and it is not uncommon for my boys to show up at the store in full camo or "buckskins." Like Frannie said, it must be heredatry. I went to town in my reniassance costume friday.

oh gurlz ... thrift stores are a treasure trove of 'gowns' ... and for only a few dollars usually! i had a HUGE collection of them when i hosted my Yesteryear's Children Tea Parties. After awhile, it just took tooooo long for the girls to pick and choose and get dressed. And i just hated it when a child did not get the special dress of her choice ... but the real reason i stopped having them dress up in these dresses was when i had a very chubby little girl at a party and she could not fit in any dress i had ... i put a dress on her and gave her a beautiful victorian shawl to wear over it so you didn't see the big gap in the back (i also tied it closed with ribbons ... but all the other girls saw her dilemma and it broke my heart ... so .. i just started having them wear fancy hats and gloves from a beautiful victorian trunk. eventually, before we moved, i donated the dresses to a children's theatre group. live and learn! xo

Have all kinds of goodies for kids. My girls are all growed up, but little girls from church know where the dress up clothes are and love pulling them all out and having fashion shows for the mom's. They have great fun. I look forward to grandbabies playing with them some day. I think my favorite is a vitorian wool shoulder wrap that was my husbands grandma's. I believe it was her mom's first. It is a great piece. I just bought an estate sale a lace cap for $1. I described it to my mom and she told me it was truly a treasure. It won't go in the dress up box,but will be available to wearing at tea by some well behaved young lady. I thought I should wear it when I sit and spin wool.

OK Frannie...my 16 year old, has more costumes tham REAL clothes! Now, take into account that he is an amature film maker...LOL But still, how weird is it to hear one son ask another "can I borrow a wig?". We had to buy several clothing racks and organizers just for his costumes and props. He keeps us entertained though!
I still love to dress up...Shhhhhhhh :)

Your son sounds like a very interesting young man! I love younger people who are creative and have vision. So many kids today are stuck in the routine of school, homework, tv, sleep and don't even think of life exisitng beyond that narrow tunnel. You must have taken a lot of time with your children when they were little to cultivate such a creative spirit. Good JOb!

I went to DI last week..they were just putting out costumes..I bought $20 worth of princess dresses, witches capes, Harry Potter costumes, and a cute little pumkin suit.
I love recycle-wear, and to think I got 7 dress-ups for the price of one.

ps..frannie, I pumped for 4 months with Chloe...tell Wednesday not to give up, Sofia will get it. Mama's milk is so important. Pumping is a pain, but so worth it in the long run...

kate ... little sofia is starting to get the 'technique' .. on the left side anyway. lucas never would nurse on her left side .. he came out 'swimming' and pinched his little arm nerve and did not like to lie with any weight on that side ... but sofia won't have that problem. i'll tell wednesday what you said .. it will mean a lot to her. she is supplementing some forumla because she also does not have HUGE output of milk. the doctor told her that some women produced enough milk to feed triplets and some barely enough for one. but wednesday, too believes the nutrients in momma's milk is important. i did remind her that i never nursed her and she has always been very healthy and smart and beautiful. (she smilled .. and kept on pumping!) xo

Oh Trina, your kind words just made my day! Thank you! Yes, I have always believed being a momma is the highest calling! My boys are so much fun! Watching them grow into men has been our JOY!
Now reading about Frannie's Wednesday and her little ones is so sweet...hearing about Wednesday giving her all, so determined to do her best for her babes! Just lovely!
