I can find all sorts of fancy ones, that's not what I'm looking. I want a plain jane, non-fancy coffee cake recipe. All the recipes I'm finding are so basically different, I really don't know where to start. I baked one yesterday from one of my cookbooks but it's still not quite what I wanted...even though hubby likes it. Heh...

If you have one or know a link, would you send it to me or post here?? Thanks in advance!!

Are you thinking of one with just a cinnamon crumb top or plainer than that? I have some old recipes that might work out nicely-

Look on the Bisquick box. It has one that I've used for 30 or more years!

This was my grandma's recipe. Enjoy!

2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 T. nutmeg (scant)
1/4 t. salt
3/4 c. oil (scant)
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
1 t. baking powder
1 t. soda
1 c. nuts (chopped)
2 t. cinnamon

Sift first five ingredients together and add oil. Mix well. Reserve one cup for topping. To the remaining mixture add eggs and buttermilk in which soda and baking powder have been dissolved. Pour into greased 13x9 cake pan. Sprinkle reserved mixture , nuts and cinnamon on top and bake at 350 for 35 minutes.

Stephanie, thank you!! The recipe is what I'm looking for. Plain and from things I have on hand, not odd ingredients you have to hunt down in a jungle!! Some of the ingredients I saw were things I wasn't sure what they were!! We tend to like basic, good solid food, not and the older recipes seem to fit the bill for the most part. I like cooking/baking from scratch too. Oddly comforting.

Thanks again!!
