I'm just feeling discouraged right now, and I know I'm not the only one feeling this way. It seems like the price of everything is just skyrocketing and it worries me. We just got our electric bill today and it was $100 more than usual because we ran the air conditioners last month. We only ran the air conditioners because it was the only way we'd figured out to keep the smoke detectors from going off in the middle of the night. (Apparently the ones they put in our house before we moved in last Christmas have a hard time figuring out the difference between humidity and smoke. Yes, we were already running THREE dehumidifiers.) Anyhow. I just feel so sad when I go to the grocery store and see the cost of food going up, the price of gas going up AGAIN, the cost of feed going way up, .....and I think winter is going to be very hard.

This isn't to say we are wasteful or not doing our part to "prep" because I think everyone here is frugal and doing their part. I guess the thing I'm really asking for prayers about is how to really proceed with this at home because my parents live with us and feel really guilty they haven't been able to pay rent to us since they moved in (can't find work but have applied a billion places, doing odd jobs for pay, but its just a little here and there) so its hard for me to be complaining about the price of things and the cost of the electric bill when I know they already feel guilty about not being able to help out. So I guess prayers that I would just proceed "correctly" - in a positive way, helping the problem and not making anyone to feel worse. Keeping my words sweet, I guess.

I bet your parents do a whole lot to help out, not just with money. Watching kids, helping with house work, yard work, garden? Makeing more meals from scratch, baking, canning, crafting gifts etc. There is alot you can do to save money. Good luck

Hi Amy,
SOrry you are feeling discouraged. I think its totally normal- and you are totally right...everytime you turn around EVERYTHING is going up and up. Our electric bill has gone up about $50 per month on our balanced billing. Forget gas- just about $4 per gallon here. Luckily we installed a new oil burner 2 winters ago- and I have to say it has cut our heating bill in half, but even at that fuel oil is just so darn expensive!
As Michele said- I am sure that your parents pitch in, in many other ways, so I would try and remind them of that when they are feeling less than helpful financially.
I agree that winter is going to be tough, and I am doing all that I can to preserve foods from the garden and be more frugal in as many ways as I can.
I will pray for you and for your parents that they can find work.
Hugs,

~Laurie

Amy,
I will pray that your words will be guided, as well as for a mild winter and jobs for family. It is never easy trying to keep animals in hard times, as well as extra mouths to feed.
There is a lot of us in the same boat this year.

Amy,
I'm praying! It's so easy to get discouraged sometimes. I'm fixing to make very necessary job changes that will have a significant financial impact . . . winter coming! We'll need to buy pellets for our pellet stove, hay for the cows . . .
I certainly understand!
Praying!

Thanks everyone for your prayers! It's nice to be able to come here and share and know that people care about you. I know there are so many people who are going through this same thing, in different ways, so the prayers should be for everyone!

Amy,
Prayers for you and all your family! I pray things ease financially to make you feel more comfortable. Times are tough and we all need to educate ourselves on how to prepare for these difficult times. You can do anything you put your mind to!
