Don't laugh, but I've had one wacky week. Last Thursday I found my head hen (Miss Hattie) slumped over and unresponsive. I panicked as all the other three girls (Bitty, Birdie, and Fannie) were fine. I drove 35 miles to an Avian Vet and had her seen. I had to leave her for the day so they of course could test her to try and figure out what the problem could be. I drove to work (40 miles) and then went to pick her up after work (40 miles).
I've been syringe feeding her (and the other 3) parasite medication and a concoction of feed, kale, yogurt, honey, egg yolk, and dried meal worms since Thursday nigh 3-4 times a day. Do you know how hard it is to get a chicken's mouth open??
On Sunday, I noticed she had a dirty bottom from sitting in shavings all day and had to bath her in my best popcorn bowl. After a quick rinse it was a cool blow dry for a fluffed up bottom.
I'm exhausted, but today , I'm happy to say after a lot of praying, she's up and around and wants to get out of her temporary coop and eat more watermelon. Thank God for the love of our animals!

Lori: I agree! And- thank God for people, like you, who love their animals. I hope Miss Hattie is on the mend. Keep us posted. I would have done the exact same thing.

Thank you Marly! I feel like the Farmer in the dell some days, I have a Persian cat named Cashmere, a sh**zu named Bell, and my 4-girls. They're just like family to me. My son who is an only child, calls our pets his wicked step sisters since they're always into sonething...lol.

Lorie: your kind of story thrills my heart and soul. I am an animal lover! My dog, Luck-Dog, passed away last December. He was 21 years young. Now, I have four outside cats, and one indoor cat. My cats are my family. Thanks for that heartwarming story about Miss Hattie. How is she doing?

Oh Marly, I sure know how it feels to loose your best friend. I lost my Golden Retriever several years ago, and let me tell you I had to take 3-days off of work. I just couldn't function. I just now have been able to put her ashes in the ground in my yard. I have this Grave yard angel that overlooks my yard where I place my pets to rest when they pass on. Thanks for asking about Miss Hattie. She's finally with her BFF Miss Bitty and so happy. I'm watching her very closely and still supplementing her food.

Lori: I'm sorry for your loss. It really is hard when you love them so much. Luck Dog just couldn't go anymore. I knew he was hurting. The last day was a painful one for him. I had to love him enough to know it was that decision time. It hurt so much. Now, I have only happy memories of my boy. Glad to hear Miss Hattie and Miss Bitty, too cute, are happy and together.

Lorie I am so happy your chicken is doing better. Did the Avian vet say what was wrong with her? Its wonderful when you work so hard to help them and it works !!! Good for you and her.

So glad to hear your chick is so much better ... and hey, you can always get a new popcorn bowl right ... Hope she continues to stay healthy.
Did you say Golden Retriever? I know what you mean about goldens I'm on my third goldy, he knocked me down 5 weeks ago and fractured my leg, I think he did it on purpose ... he he he.
He is by my side all the time ... I call him my shadow.

I can so relate and I am so glad that your chicken is feeling better. I lost one of my cats a few months ago that I had for thirteen years and it was like losing a piece of my heart. I still miss her so much and it has made me hug my other cat and my dog (I have a pom) so much more. Everyone thinks I'm nuts because I love my pets so much, but they just don't get it.

I can so empathize with you all. I have an only child (my 21-year old son) and always wanted more children. I think that God has given me a love for all fur and feathered children to fill the void in my heart of not having other children. I just love my pets. Everything thinks I'm nuts! Thank God for an awesome husband who never had children of his own and shares my heart and love for these babies!

Lorie, out of six sister, I am one of two that love, love, love animals. My other sisters think I'm nuts, too. I tell them I'd rather be with my cats or dog than at a tea parties with the fancy ladies. LOL
