I haven't gotten any beefsteak tomatoes yet, but I think I've found the problem...but now how to fix it???
I noticed that everywhere there was a blossom, there is now just stem. Where there are still a few blossoms, the stem they are on looks like it's been bent (but it hasn't) and if you touch it the entire blossom falls off. The plant looks healthy otherwise. I have a jelly bean tomato plant near it and it's doing fine.
I've searched and can't find any info on this. So I'm wondering if anyone has had this happen.

Hi Luanne, I'm just up the road in C.S. and I'm pretty sure your problem is the heat. When it gets over 90 tomato plants have a hard time putting on fruit. My Brandywines have put on almost no fruit so far. My San Marzano, Rutgers and Fox cherry have put on a ton. Those started blooming sooner and put on fruit before the heatwave hit. I've just about decided, after 4 years of no appreciable beefsteak type production, to stick to the other types. Our growing season is just too short to put up with diva tomatoes!

I'll send you some sun if you send me some rain! I can't even remember the last time we had rain. Everything is so brown and dry. Today it looked like fall with all of the dead leaves falling from the trees in our back yard.
We've been having problems with black rotten spots at the blossom. I think my dad called it end blossom rot. He read on the internet that it could be because the plant is lacking in calcium and it suggested putting Tums in the soil. We'll see how that works.

Thanks! Yeah, they are getting water, so it must be the 13 days straight of 100+ degree days!! If I had blossoms, I'm sure they would have dropped too!! Thought I was gonna die for sure!! I thought I was missing some sort of nutrients for my plants, never thinking about the heat!! DUH!! They are getting "Tomatoes Alive" from Gardens Alive for their vitamins, so I was puzzled by the lack of fruit. Guess the farmers market is the way to go for beefsteaks. I'm with Melina, I've had it with my DIVA mater plants!!
