You can felt with all sorts of fibers. I'm allergic to sheep's wool so I work with alpaca fibers. But I've heard of people using felt, yarn, silk, organza, chiffon, denim, tulle netting and more. And of course ribbons and trims can be added for a special touch! It's a very fun and flexible artform!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

It is my experience that it is always done with wool. Yarn, roving, or just combed wool will work depending on the process that you are using.

I sometimes needle felt and that I do with roving or combed wool. If I am going to knit an item then felt it in the washing machine I use a good wool yarn.

Hope this helps.

Wow Marilyn, I've never tried to felt with some of the items you listed. I have used Alpaca, Llama and the such (just lumped it in with wool.....my bad) but the others sound interesting. Will have to give some a try!

Thanks for sharing
