What a night.

Late last night the security lights went on at our next door neighbors. I woke up peeked outside and didn't see anything, but thought for sure someone had been poking around.

This afternoon DH came home went into the garage and discovered my proper English bike (Eleanor) was missing as well as his Schwinn. So he popped into the van and headed over to the seedier side of our little town. And, sure enough there they were parked as nice as you please with kickstands down in front of an apartment building. DH said he picked up the bikes and put them into the back of the van and then drove home only to discover his beloved chain-saw was missing! So, back he goes into the van and heads on over to our one and only pawn shop here in our little town and lo and behold-A chainsaw was brought in just today. The pawn broker wouldn't show him the chainsaw until he filed a police report describing it, but said for $15.00 he could have it. What's up with that??

When the officer came by a few minutes ago DH told him everything including what the pawn broker told him. So tomorrow, DH will have to go down to this pawn shop with an officer and identify his chainsaw. And, according to the police officer DH will NOT have to pay him $15.00-The pawnbroker will have to recoup that himself!

I tell you ladies this town is going to hell in a hand basket!

Our neighborhood hasn't always been like this-It makes me angry and very sad.

But, on a happy note-Eleanor is safely secured for now at least-

Well thank God you were robbed by some not so smart criminals, and was able to get your stuff back, I think that pawn shop owner sounds shady.

I agree Roxanna....The pawnbroker said that guy who brought in the chainsaw comes in there alot...DUH! But, then to tell DH the saw is yours for $15.00? It's a good thing I wasn't with DH at the time. He'd have gotten an earfull-LOL!

DH just wants his chain saw back-He uses it quite a bit since we cut our own firewood for the winter.

So glad you were able to get your things back! But gosh, what a pain in the rear. I hope those people don't keep this behavior up! That's just so rude.

Makes me want to head for the hills-

It wasn't always like this in my neighborhood. The town is changing and not for the better. It's a crying shame.

Wow- I am glad you got your possessions back. It's too bad that people feel they have to resort to crime. Very sad...

I think it's the drugs. People are looking for a quick sale to score. Makes me sad and angry at the same time.

Sorry that happened to you and your family. It is really sad these days that people do that. I agree, makes me really angry.

We actually had some crime in our neighborhood recently too. Our neighbors house was broken into and the next day their car was also stolen! They were able to get their car back luckily unharmed but it sure is shocking when it comes home like that!

So glad you got your things back. Pawn shops should be banned. They know that most things that come in are stolen. Yes, most of it is for drugs. People are so addicted, they will do anything to get a fix. Our small towns are becoming less attractive. You cannot trust anybody anymore. Was not long ago you could leave your doors open to run to the grocery store, now, if you walk around the block, you have to lock up. What a shame!!!!! But, I am glad you had a happy ending.

Yeah...WE got our bikes back-If DH didn't take a quick scoot to see if he could find them we never would have gotten them back.

First the pawn shop and then the smoke shops-Hand in Hand....This isn't the first time we've had bikes stolen although a few years ago there was a strange twist...I had an antique table kind of small but cute sitting next to my garden shed with pots of flowers on it. Woke up one morning went to water the plants and the table was gone-whoever took the table graciously and delicately placed the flower pots on the ground next to the table apparently they didn't want those! I try to NEVER leave anything out overnight because I know it will be stolen.

We woke up to someoone trying to steal the tailgate off our truck, parked right in front of the house. When we told someone about it, I got an education in the word "tweaker". It was someone trying to get meth money. They steal heavy things around here, take them to the recycling center, and get a few dollars for meth. If I had my way, they'd get some nice heavy lead in the seat of the pants!

Please be very careful, can't stress to you enough how dangerous tweakers are, most of them have been up for days so they are so messed up mentally you just can't tell what they might do, let the police handle it nothing is worth you life. There were some tweakers that stole all the bronze urns at a graveyard mashed them took them to a local scrap yard. this is just a good example of how unclear their thought process is.

Yes, be really careful. I got an education about them a while back, too. Had to turn down a really spiffy house which was in the neighborhood of a known druggie.

Another thing, at the dollar store, they are selling bath salts for the bath. Is that the same thing/stuff which is causing people to become crazy and turn into cannibals? Or is it only a name for a certain type of drug??

I'm glad you got your stuff back but that whole situation just stinks. When I was really young we had some druggies a few houses over steal our bikes from our backyard. They rode the bikes home in the early morning...leaving a trail through the wet grass. My mom called the cops and they followed the trail over and got our bikes back.

SO glad it was just things that you got back and that nobody got hurt. Be safe.
We had our car stolen when we lived in rural NC..they left us a riding mower in it's place. They also stole all my husbands fishing gear and a cool cooler I'd used for camping for many years and had all my travel stickers on it. We eventually got the car back but we were ready to trade it and just wanted the cooler and fishing gear. Joey

It makes me so sad to see what has happened to some of the nicest places in the country. I just don't understand what gets into someone's head to be so brazen or to threaten the lives of others. Our town has become one of the most pitiful places...in fact, I don't go there at all and rarely even have to drive thru it, but it's heartbreaking to see where affluent families once lived now be drug houses or so run down they need to be condemned.

What has happened to America?

No,a the bath salts they sell for your bath use are not the same thing. Druggies are just using that name to cover what it is they are using.

I am so glad you got your stuff back and you personally weren't injured in any way.

Hugs and Squishies!!

They should be able to track down the thief through the pawn shop IF the pawn shop did their job correctly. And the person who sold it to the pawn shop is in serious trouble. It is a felony to sell something that is not yours to a pawn shop.

I'll say this, not all pawn shops are seedy. Here in our little town they are VERY particular with the paper work and no one would dare charge you money to recoup your stolen stuff. I would have filed an incident report on him for receiving stolen goods. The cop sounds a bit like Barney Fife to have let that go. Its a good thing to know your area well enough to know where to find your stuff should it decide to take a vacation! I'm picturing the idiots who stole the bikes looks when they came back outside to find them gone. I wonder if they called the cops?! ROFLOL!!!

I know!

DH made it very clear that he was present outside the apartment complex to anyone peeking out a window or walking by. I guess he was slamming doors and being rather "verbal" when he put our bikes inside-I wish I could have seen that-but he's pretty smart and knows when to leave me home!

Actually, when we told the officer about the pawnbroker saying DH could have it back at a price, the officer vehemently shook his head NO and said we DID NOT have to pay for it if in fact it is DH's, and that' it was up to the pawnbroker to recoup HIS loss.

The officer seemed pretty disgusted with the entire situation and the fact that crime is getting so out of hand here. He mentioned several times how he has been to the pawn shop and recovered many items that were in fact stolen. Why this guy hasn't been shut down I'll never know...Oh by the way, the owner of the pawn shop is a former lawyer...

Awh Melody, I am so sorry to hear this news. It is truly sad, what is happening in all parts of America. I often say to my husband that I want to pick up and move to the middle of nowhere, but honestly I just dont know if there is a safe, crime and drug free town anymore. Very sad and very frightening when it hits so close to home.
I am happy that you got your bikes back and hope that it all works out with the pawn shop.
Stay safe!
Hugs,

~Laurie

Our little Post Office was broken into a few months ago. Took all the mail out of the boxes. A girlfriend of mine had received a renewed credit card and had not picked up her mail for a few days. We don't know how they were able to activate the card but went stright to Walmart and charged $500 worth of stuff. All the check outs are on video. Before the weekend was over, they had charged about $1700. The sheriff actually got them for making meth and found all the mail in their house. Now in addition to drug charges, they are up for a Federal crime. The druggies are so stupid. They are not smart enough to be crooks. I didn't think I had anything other than junk mail taken from my box until the first of the next month and I couldn't find my new TV Guide. Now THAT really made me mad.
