It's a myth that fertile eggs have blood spots. The blood spots are when something extra gets into the egg during a hen's natural egg development process. The reason your supermarket eggs don't have any is they are run through a computer and any that have a blood spot are rejected.
Fertile eggs have a white target-like spot on the surface of the yolk. That's how you can tell :)
