I was set up at the Farmer's Market, sporting an apron made by Grace (CountryGrace), and the kids sporting aprons by CJ (in the fall one dd will be sporting her Christmas apron made by Katmom), when a woman came up to our tent.

I wore a summer dress and had been sitting down crocheting, waiting for customers. My hair was up in a bun.

She said, "You look like MaryJane on the farm."

I did share with her about the MaryJane's Farm that I knew about, and we shared a nice conversation.

I had several older women approach me and tell us that the love our aprons and that it's not something you see around here anymore. Each time we go, we wear our aprons. I just may have to make some aprons myself some day.

Thanks for letting me share.

What a wonderful story Kristina!
It certainly is true, that you just dont see too many people wearing aprons around these days (except us farmgals of course!)
Its hearwarming to hear that there are still people out there who see it and appreciate it.

Nice story Kristina. And- I think you should make your own aprons.

That is a wonderful farmgirl story and that you are wearing aprons made by so many of our farmgirls. Yes, you should make your own aprons. I see my your blog that you did well at the flea market as well, I am happy for you.

Debbie

Great story, You know I would tend to purchase from someone with an apron. It just makes me feel homey and that the person wearing the apron put a lot of love into what they made.

How wonderful! Aprons rule!! I love aprons and wear them all the time when at home. I have yet to wear one out and about but I am seriously thinking about it. Wouldn't it be grand to have a "national apron day" where women could wear their best and most fancy aprons? Just saying.... LOL

Hugs,

Nancy

Well, many of you know that I make aprons and many of the Farmgirls have honored me with purchasing my aprons. I sell them at our Farmers Market and this is my 5th season doing so. Just finished the 3rd sale day of the season and things are going well. Several of my customers are "collectors".

I went to the bank yesterday after the sale day to cash some checks and the bank teller told me SHE bought aprons from me there last summer and was planning on coming back to buy more for gifts.
I wear them at Market and I wear them in town to go shopping . . . I've had lots of HUGE compliments. I have my own "wardrobe" of aprons and plan to make more for me . . .when I get time.

So, farmgirls . . . let's ROCK this WORLD with our APRONS. I think it needs to be weekly!!!

Here is my 10 year-old wearing one from CJ too. Yesterday, she wore her Christmas one from Katmom to bake her dad a Father's Day cake (I wish I had taken a photo then also).

There was a new vendor at the Farmer's Market that was selling flounce style aprons and wearing them too.

An apron day sounds fabulous. What a great idea!

I'm accruing a collection of aprons myself. I have my "messy work" apron in a denim holstein cow print I wear when I'm processing or cleaning and I want mobile pockets or to keep my clothes clean.

I've got a reversible apron I made with a tudor pillow panel print that I like to wear for cooking and baking (it has a bigger chest coverage for my bigger chest... although it lays kind of "floppy")

I have an 1860's victorian style stars & stripes patriotic apron-- it doesn't have pockets so I have barely used it-- I'm keeping my options open to use it as a possible gift. Lots of hand sewn details. If I'm gonna keep it I need to stitch a pot holder to the skirt to use as a pocket.

My mother just gave me an apron featuring star quilt blocks on the chest and the potholder pocket that she bought for me in Lancaster CO. PA. She's not sure if it's Amish or Mennonite made but I love it- definitely my favorite.

I mainly got into aprons so any outfit I wear could have pockets-- but it's nice not having to toss out so many stained tee shirts!!
