Erica, I have O blood type and in the book " Eat Right for your Blood Type" is says that I cant have keifer...but I like the taste. kinda like buttermilk....But the information that was in your first post was very interesting. I am not at home enough to manage it...and my husband cant find time when he is at home to do it either...But I will keep up with your posts and see if you have any when I am going to be home more often. Flowerchild-Erica hasn't posted to the forum for quite some time. I am not sure if she is still active or not. Anyone else have Kefir grains that they share? I have seen them for sale on E-Bay.

I have made my own Kefir before using raw whole cows milk and a packet of kefir starter from the store. Is it better to use your live grains rather than the store packet...I guess that it a stupid question... so, what is the difference? Should I be asking you to send me some of your live grains too? =)

Hi all,
For anyone who would like to make their own Kefir, I periodically have live grains available that I could send to anyone who would like them. As they are living, they multiply, and I have already gotten everyone I know to start drinking Kefir and using the grains, so now I am to the point of having to throw them away.
Two reasons I don't want to do that- 1. I hate to waste, and live healthy grains aren't always the easiest to come by. 2. Oddly enough- I feel kinda bad just trashing the grains, I mean, they are living and all. Silly, I know.
I have a batch ready to send out anytime, so if anyone wants, please let me know. I will send instructions as to how to "make" the kefir and take care of the grains- it's VERY simple and inexpensive.
Kefir has great health benefits and tastes good- especially as a base for smoothies, and the kefir made from the live grains is MUCH better than storebought Kefir.
Here's a link about Kefir for more info about the benefits: http://www.kefir.biz/benefit.htm http://www.mercola.com/forms/kefir.htm
Erica Oh..PS: I would send the live grains free of course!

Hello all, nice site you have here. I'm hoping to find someone in the Yakima Wa area whom can give me some Real Milk Kefir Grains, so I don't have to use the store bought powder starter. I hear the real ones are much better in every way, and can become your mother source ever after, whereas the powdered kind will die off after a few generations. |

Hi, I just learned about Kefir the other day!Never heard of it. I started looking around for the grains, this is something that you just don't whip up in your kitchen. Where do you get them? Are there any you can still get for free? If no longer free what it the cost for Kefir grains? Thanks,Diane

Did you know that you can dry the grains out and eat them? Or dry them for storage.

I received my grains from someone who had dried them. But she hand delivered them to me. It does make sense that it's better way to ship them safely. I should ask her how she did it!

Yes, they did! I absentmindedly thought I had posted, but I was wrong! I have started rehydrating them. So far, so good! I will let you know when I am in the kefir making stages. Thanks for doing the trade! Mary LD |

Not a problem! Just out of curiousity, what day did they actually reach you? I have an online buddy in CA who wants some too.

Hi, It's been a long time since this discussion began, but I have just recently became acquainted with kefir, and I really want to try it. If you are still doing it, and have kefir grains to find a home for, I would love to have a little. Thanks |
