We have a problem with some wasps and hornets around the house. In fact they even find a way into the house if I'm not extra, extra careful by trying to make nests on the clothes when I hang them outside! My husband got stung by a yellow jacket wasp that was inside his pants! He was late to work over it. Thank goodness he isn't allergic.
I'm worried about my kids being outside. In fact, yesterday while we were gone a hornet (I am pretty sure it's a hornet) got half a nest build under our picnic table umbrella while we were gone!!! I destroyed the nest and the hornet. They are very aggressive if you happen to go near where they have a nest.
Is there anything homemade I can do to repel them around the yard? We already destroy every nest we could find, and continue keeping our eyes open for more as they start up.
Any tips? I'd prefer not to do anything chemical but if I can't find anything homemade or natural I will have to resort to something! Thanks in advance!

I have wasps and hornet and horse flies. I spray them with pure vinegar. Sometimes they get up and fly away, so I stomp on them after they hid the ground. Good luck.

I haven't tried using them, but I have seen lots of colored glass traps that you hang in your yard that are supposed to keep them away.

The traps Rachel is talking about work well for yellow jackets and some hornets and wasps that have a sweet tooth. These traps usually have an inner container filled with a little bit of sugar solution, cider vinegar or pheromone attractant. Once the critters get inside the outer container trying to reach the attractant they can't get out again. You should be able to find them at your local home/garden/hardware store.
