I've always had long straight red hair.... But around 28 years old, my hair went curly! it's strange still bc certain parts are curlier than others and needs to be cut properly to make it look uniform.. But it looks great when properly! I started dying my hair around 30 bc of the grays.. But most redheads know, red fades to strawberry blobde and roots are sooo obvious! The problem I have now is I found a great stylist who cuts and colors perfectly... But I can't afford both right now and I have crazy hair again and awful roots bc the color faded. Its $70 for both, but I know if I color it myself then go for a cut she will be all bent out of shape! She's not the most friendly woman in the world but she does my hair cut perfectly, I hate to risk going anywhere else bc they always do a hack job! Ugh.. Now my hair is to my waist with 5 inch roots (it's been 3 months since my last appointment) and I'm still debating what to do. Money is just so tight right now. I have just been twisting it up and pinning it (not easy bc it's so darn thick and long... Think of that new Disney princess from BRAVE. ). Maybe I'll wait another month and save up the money..ugh |

Still growing here but it seems to take forever. It is noticeable and hopefully I can hold out until the bangs get long enough to either pull back nicely or be pushed behind my ears. Problem with that is it is thick and doesn't really stay behind my ears.

My hair is down to the bottom of my shoulder blades. I trimmed about 5-6 inches off a couple months ago and am leaving it be. I have been doing what is called "no poo",which means not using shampoo. You use baking soda to help absorb the dirt and oil,you can sprinkle it on dry and rub it in letting it sit for a little bit or mix it with water and pour in and massage simular to what you would do with shampoo. If your hair it not really dirty you can just rinse with water and you use a small amount of apple cider vinegaer for conditioner or it does help with dry scalp. My hair feels better and so does my scalp,I have eczema on my scalp. I also know that coconut oil works well for conditioner if hair is really dry or colored...my daughters do this...yes color and use the coconut oil and it seems to help. I would like to ask if anyone knows of any other things that are natural and would help with the eczema.

I am a recovering cancer survivor with only about an inch of hair right now. Want it longer faster than it is happening. Are there ways to encourage growth? Have been doing massage.

My hair has grown out enough that it's gotten straighter instead of being wavy (messy) when I had layers. I'm thinking of having it braided. I read that "braid bars" are the newest thing at hair salons. You just pick the style you want and all styles are the same price. Cindy

My hair is fine and very thin, especially on top. Has anyone seen or tried those "laser" combs that are supposed to be good for male balding? Last time I rode a plane it was advertising in the shopping magazine. I wonder if they would work on women also.

I remember as a young girl, my hair was so long that I was sitting on it! Then I decided at age 7 to take a scissors to it...then ended up with a pixie cut and a very sad Mom! It has been just past my shoulders on the average.
Five yrs ago, I stopped highlighting my hair and cut off at the ear lobe! I haven't cut my hair since Thanksgiving 2011 (I trim it myself) and before then I hadn't cut or used chemicals or curling iron for 2 yrs. Also am still taking prenatal vitamins. My hair is 23-24" long and is at my waist! I always wanted to grow my hair long again but with it being fine and also having thyroid issues, I wasn't sure if I could. It must be those vitamins and a ton of patience! So be patient ladies, it pays off in the end!

I also have thin hair and after a couple og bad hair cuts and colouring I decided to grow my hair and colour it myself.I had it real short and since last year november I'm growing it and now it is shoulder lenght. Every time I wash my hair I loose lots of hair, I sometimes wonder if I have hair left on my head.....Recently I heard that massasing your scalp and using pure coconot oil hepls it get healthy and growing. So i will try it and see.

Monique, I heard that too, except it said: Take about 4 tablespoons softened coconut oil, mix with 2-4 (depending on sensitivity) drops tea tree oil, and 3-4 drops of rosemary oil. Or this one: mix 4 tablespoons coconut oil with 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1 tablespoon grapefruit juice. Both of these "recipes" came from here Coconut Oil Scalp Treatment & I saw some stuff here too. I've been adding some coconut oil to my tea since I read about all the health benefits of the oil, but I have to say that I've been kind of lax on the scalp massage :(. Usually I remember when I'm 3/4 asleep & don't want to drag my butt out of bed to do it.

I started growing my hair out last May. It has grown eight inches in one and a half years. Not quickly, but not too bad either. My hair is very thin on top, so I keep it short and just grow everything from the crown back. It is now past my shoulders, so hopefully I'll be able to keep going with it and not cut it again.

i alternate between letting my hair grow and cutting it. as soon as it gets long enough to keep up in a ponytail or pinned up, it is also long enough in front to get in my eyes, which i hate. there are just so many little wisps in front, even pinning or clipping them back is a pain. at least i have finally found a great stylist/colorist. She does a great cut--she started as a barber. right now my hair is getting about shoulder lenght and the color (purole streaks) needs to be revived. time to give her a call. |

@ Bella, Thanks for the compliment! (blush) I really don't do anything special or use anything expensive for my skin. I do, however, avoid any brown sodas. Carmel coloring is awful for skin! I have helped many teens avoid acne problems by telling them not to drink brown colord soda!

Hi everyone,
My hair was down to my waist, and then I cut it to about halfway down my back. My curls are back now that my hair isn't so long and heavy, but I miss my long hair and I am letting it grow again.
Fun discussion, and I enjoy hearing what others are doing with thier long hair.

I started growing my hair out in May this year. I got tired of flat-ironing the curl out of it every few hours and decided to see what the curl would do again if I let it grow long. I read a book called The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey for inspiration and instruction on how to handle curly hair. She even has a chapter in the book about how to trim your own hair. I made it through all the hot, humid weather this summer without dashing off to the hairdresser! It's about shoulder length now or a bit longer because of the curl that keeps going into ringlets as it gets longer. I feel the longer hair is more "me" if you know what I mean. I wish I did it years sooner! I feel I spend less on my hair now than I did when it was short. Can't wait till it's long enough to braid it. So...yes, I'm joining you!

Candace: I usually plait (braid) my hair usually three or four times a week. If I'm outside working or playing I plait my hair. I like long hair, and my hair is curly. At times I hot iron it, but I don't like the flat look. Marly

I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. When it's long, I want it short. When it's short, I want it long. In past years, I've grown my hair long only to get pregnant (my face gets fat when I'm pregnant and you can't have the teensy hair that I like with a gigantic swollen face); once babies were born, I chopped it off. And by chopped, I mean chopped. Pixie style. I absolutely love it that way, but after the recent birth of my last baby (now 7 months), I've left my hair alone and it's just past my shoulders. We'll see what happens in the summer - I have super thick hair and it's like a mink blanket on my back when it's hot. I do love the options that long hair allows for...but I usually just find myself putting it in a regular ole' pony tail...
