I couldn't find a place for this to really go so I guessed that this was the best...lol
I'm looking for hats...floppy garden hats, straw hats...whatever. Do you have a favorite hat? Do you know of any websites to find hats? I tend to have a larger than average head, do you know of any that fit a larger head well? |

You have a larger than average head and my head is very small. I can never buy a straw hat because it falls off my head! I'll keep my eyes open and will let; you know if I find something! Susan |

liz .. i don't often wear hats .. so i can't help you wtih this one ... but check out all your local 'thrift stores' .. sometimes a well-worn hat might be stretched just to the size you need. xo

Here's a hat made by "Woman's Work". I bought it at the site (A.M. Leonard) above, and have a small head size myself. There's a "cinch" line around the crown to take up slack which works well, the brim is nice and wide, and the chin strap keeps it on in the wind. I wear it when mowing grass, so the dirt flies--but after one season it looks brand new. I expect it to last years... Hope this helps, Susan.
Blessings, Ann

Liz, do you have a Tractor Supply Co. around? They have a good selection of hats in various sizes, both men's and women's styles. The hat I wrote about for Susan also might work for you. I sometimes twist my hair up and barette it, which causes me to need the hat a lot larger than normal, and this one will adjust...

Thanks so much for the suggestions ladies, I really appreciate them. We do have a TSC here Ann but I've never looked to see if they've got hats. I'll have to do that the next time I'm in there. Thanks again! |

I got a "good" straw hat at Kaufmann's (now Macy's) it is "packable" meaning when you crush it into your suitcase it comes back out and you can get it back into shape. It was a Large, (I have a larger-than-average head also) and fits very well.
For gardening, though, I second the motion for a straw hat at Tractor Supply. They generally don't last me more than a season since I am pretty good about throwing them down any old place when my head gets too hot...

Thanks. I'll try to find one with the elastic on it. Maybe it will stay on better. Isn't it something how we're all put together so differently? It is truly amazing! Thanks for the suggestions. Susan |

Liz, Garden hats are one of my obsessions. I have a raffia one that does not quite fit my head. It is three different browns in a stripe pattern....IF you would like it, I could package it up for you...It doesn't ahve straps or bands or anything, but that is something very easy to add to it. Let me know!

one of my friends in dallas makes hats for adults that are similar to the hats i made for sunshines daughters. (you can see these on the blog site sunshine has.) reids hats are usually sold at craft, quilt shows or in various shops across the united states. she is a member here at mj's but i've never seen a post from her. if you click on reidbeid in the member list you could email her and see if the hats she makes might be something you are interested in. hopes this helps.

Thank you for the offer Tasha-Rose. If you'd like to email the picture to me or post it here, either works :)
Thanks for the info Fran, I will check out Sunshine's blog! |
