| Did some seeing today;first time in a long while. With everything that's going on I thought it might be good therapy. Well it did help me calm my mind. Made a pair of pants for work and some summer shorts for my daughtet_ |

Patricia: You have to be a good sewer to make pants and shorts. I'm still figuring out how to sew a doll. I can, however, make a square pillow. I'd love to see a picture of your sewing.

LOL..I'm still trying to figure out how to turn my machines on and thread them. I'd LOVE to be able to sew my own clothes one day (I loathe clothes shopping)

I have always found sewing to be good therapy, it's great to just lose myself in my sewing room and play with fabric. I can spend hours in there and not notice time passing at all. Don't always have something great to show for it but it's always fun.

| it's kinds mindless and my mind needs a break. made a pair of white pants for work, now need to make the navy blue ones. used to make more clothes when the kids were small. made all their pj's, shorts, Halloween costumes, dresses for the girls. so now it's time to make some for me. Rachel that was funny, my machine is from the 1970's a Singer that belonged to my grandmother |

awesome. I love my clothing too. The oldies are the goodies. Most the new machines even the upper scale lines are a lot of crud today.

I plan on taking a pants class this year or next. Either way, I'm just going to go for it with a hot patterns, pattern (for cropped pants) this summer with or with out the class! haha

Bear5, if you can sew a square pillow, you can most certainly make a skirt with a draw string. Really, you can! Pants are tricky. I made some in HomeEc, but none since. You can make an apron too. Not hard at all. My next project is to make one of those pennant banners for glamping weekend. My DH just shakes his head.

I wanted to say I agree if you can sew a pillow you can make a skirt. Look for a pattern that has a elastic waist band. You can whip them out fairly quickly. If I didn't have babies (two under two y/o) I could probably whip one up in 2 hours. I'm talking from getting the pattern out, and cut, to actually wearing. But, with the babies it takes me about a week, as I only get to do one part at a time, basically only about 5 minutes or less per a session, before one starts crying! lol

| Just remove the thought out of your mind that you can't do it and jump in. A lot of times thing seem hard in a pattern until you get to that step then it makes sense, and so what if you make a mistake , that's how you learn. Roxanna |

Whenever I'm stressed, I start sewing! For me, it's very calming even if the project is challenging. I think it's because I have to concentrate on what I'm doing which makes whatever I'm stressed about seem to melt away for a little while.
Have fun with your daughter's pants and shorts! Sounds like a fun project! |

I used to like to hand stitch everything that fell apart. After my breakdown(over ten years ago), I have had a really hard time mustering up courage to fix holes in blankets, make pillows, etc. However! By the Grace of my God bringing me MJF, I have picked up the needle and thread again.I have taken a valance that my Husby brought home with a comforter and one curtain panel from a garage sale last year; I am making it into a pillow!

| I agree, the cat of sewing and knitting also seem to be calming activities for me and now that I have found a pants pattern I like I am going to make a couple more pairs to wear to work, maybe even alter it to be capri pants. |

| My daughter moved back home from college and she brought my mom's sewing machine and table with her so we sat it up in the living room, I am hoping while she is away for two months in Russia I can start sewing again. Roxanna |

I agree that sewing is therapeutic. I'm making lots of aprons lately. I remember in HomeEc class, remember those old days?, we made a simple blouse with no buttons or zipper. I think a wrap skirt could be easy, too. I noticed in the pattern books they have an easy-to-sew section. That might help boost confidence.

There is nothing like sitting down and sewing for a while to relax. I get so caught up in it sometimes that time just seems to fly by. The best way to learn sewing is to just jump in and do it. I am self taught so I am not the greatest sewer by any means. However, I love it and do the best I can. I like to make cloth dolls the best. (They never complain if I don't do a perfect job.) I also just started to sew quilts.

| I love to sew! I took lessons when I was about 12 (all my older family members that knew how passed when I was very young before I had a chance to learn from them ) I do lots of crafts but I'm best at sewing and it's by far my favorite. I've sewn many things including pjs, aprons, pants, dresses, and dog beds. Right now I'm working on a blue silky dress with butterflies for my mom and a stretchy purplely flowery sundress for me. I do the majority of sewing in the middle of the night when I can't sleep and I get up with the intent to sew for no more than an hour just to calm my mind and end up getting really into whatever it is I'm working on and staying up till dawn then being tired the next day. I love sewing. Can't seem to get enough of it. I have been making these quilts for awhile but want to get back to my doll making. I guess my creative juices just run along the lines of dolls. I try once in a while to make some clothes. I can make skirts and pjs. The dresses and shirts do not turn out so well for me.

I taught myself to sew some 50 years ago making barbie doll clothes. Have sew wedding gowns for my daughters and friends and I have a small home-based sewing business where I sew aprons most of them I have designed and home decor. | I've been sewing since '92, my grandma gave me her SInger sewing machine(am still using it) and have never looked back. sewed PJ's, shorts, dresses, Halloween costumes, pants, tons of 18 inch doll clothes, I enjoy the creative opportunity it gives me and the satisfaction of doing it myself. |
